Had my first lesson on a newish horse last night that I hope will become a regular thing. "Sweetie" has been at the stable about 6 months but she's young (about 7 y/o) and still green so they're bringing into the lesson program slowly. She wasn't as bad as I feared. Had a really rewarding troop in Evansville yesterday. A defunct used book store was being cleared out by the new owners with all the sales to benefit the local no kill animal shelter "It Takes A Village". In addition to the book sale they turned it into an event with vendors, food trucks and adoptable animals on site. Everyone was super nice and ( Read more... )

Some drama at riding lessons tonight. I got there and found out my favorite lesson horse Dan (and Ryan) were gone. When I asked my instructor about it she said the owner took them back yesterday after accusing her of being a poor caretaker after more than 10 years there. Had a high profile event today as things start to normalize, a walk for Make a Wish. While a lot of it was virtual they did have an in person component at Kentucky Kingdom. A small bright spot today as I crossed the river to Evansville and did a troop at their local zoo. As it turns out I ended up solo and it was pretty awkward as people didn't know how to react to this person dressed as a jedi just standing around. My Phire Fly, or just Lilah, who I last rode all the way back in 2014 is now officially a part of the lesson program at the stable. She was a show horse and then her owner went off to school in Lexington and another rider leased her but then they didn't renew the lease because they wanted to save their money for their own horse. Drove to Evansville yesterday for the annual Riley Hospital Walk at the mall. This is always a great event and worth the drive. There's good parking, it's inside, they give us a nice changing area with bathrooms close by and for out of towners they'll usually put up a hotel room. Did the run last night. Pretty mediocre time of 39 minutes. Better than I was expecting though. Very crowded/busy. Got there at 5:30 and the parking lot was already 3/4 full. Did the run and went straight home. Didn't hang around for the poker or anything. Looks like it was 256 runners with 224 toys and $2130 in donations for Toys for Tots.
