My Facebook and my Livejournal are separate. Please keep it that way. No cross-posting.

I just read about the cross-posting potential between LJ & FB and was wondering how privacy would be maintained. I'm completely locked down on FB, no apps, friends only, no, no, no, no on all those settings.

PS: finished BSG before camp 08.20. Frak is my favorite word. Baldar and Caprica 6 reverse engineered souls independent of Cylon technology IMHO. Now I'm reading all of Alexander McCall Smith's 44 Scotland Street series for the emotional distaff. I'm a Bertie fan.

The deal is (so far - there's been nothing but silence from LJ's end at the time of this posting):

You post a friendslocked entry to your LJ.
Someone you may be friends with replies to your LJ, but they may have 'connected' their Facebook or Twitter account to their LJ account, and thusly can intentionally (or accidentally) send their comment to those fora. If they have quoted you in their reply, it will show up, along with a link back to your entry (which won't be readable, but the comment will be out of context and it WILL reveal your username). The point here is that it doesn't have to be intentional on the friends' part; all it takes is one careless click from someone who has connected their accounts, and OOPS.

This has, to paraphrase Douglas Adams, made a lot of people Very Angry and has been widely regarded as a Bad Move.

It's public entries only or responses someone writes to ANY security level entry. So my thing is...if you quote someone in a response in a locked entry, you can post all of that to Facebook.

I ain't happy.

I've submitted a support request (http://www.livejournal.com/support/) demanding that this hole be fixed. I suggest anyone else who's as outraged about this stupidity as I am do the same.

cloudysulfur and I have a long term friend, her blog is Lady Owl's Nest, who is very honest and decent. She's one of my 10 (!!!) friends on FB. My FB settings only allow Friends to see my posts and comments, none of their friends (third party) can any of see my stuff. I run no apps whatsoever.

I could cross-post a LJ test entry and you, cloudysulfur and den_down_unda could make significant comments like "Hmmm" or "Frak" or "Uhhh" and she could report on what appears on her FB, such as "just your post content" "post content plus LJ friends comments" the existence of any identifiers, etc., so we know where we stand.

Then I would remove the post from FB and any LJ comments that show and disconnect the FB Connect.
