HUMBUG!

I’ve spent the last year working myself literally to the point of tears to make sure that 2012 starts off ahead on the bills, and not having to ever borrow from friends and family again. I needed to hear this. Thank you. This was the first year I didn't use a credit card to buy Christmas. My kid is opening 2 presents that was on his wish list. That's all. And I've felt bad about that this whole month until I read this. Thank you.

It's funny...The reason I ended up writing about this was to help sort out what the hell I was feeling around the whole Christmas thing this year.

I don't have kids, but I still have the desire NOT to go into debt to buy presents for Christmas when it's supposed to be about family, not loot. And yet I still have the guilt about not buying enough, doing enough, etc.

I think what you're doing is awesome. It has potential to be a great lesson for your kids to know that life is about family and love and experiences and not money and material things. They probably already know that though.

Still, good on you.
