Part 1 Kazuya looked up and stared at the ceiling like it was the very interesting object in the world.
OH SHIT! Did I just guess it right? DAMN IT! It’s HIM! The DEVIL himself! Kazuya thought frantically as he almost pull his hair out of his head.
As a teenager Kazuya, the other man had been the evil charm he had which made his childhood life miserable. The taller man never did stop teasing him since they were young; it was like the other was born appointed to be Kazuya’s demon to make his life worse than ever. Well, Kazuya could take the teasing and the pranks which the other throws but making him suffer all those years when he was totally in love with the other was painful to take. For years, he fantasized Jin!
Why is he back? Kazuya frowned on that thought.
Jin left four years ago to continue and master his skills as a writer. When he won a national award because of his article about the Japanese war years ago, the article had been noticed by a US newspaper and he was given an offer to be a correspondent in Africa.
But now, he’s back.
Kazuya touched his forehead, feeling dizzy and at the same time annoyed at the situation. “It can’t be! I thought he was already dead in Africa? Like being hit by those big Egyptian rocks or bricks, or was killed by those sharp thorns of cactus, whatever it is.” He said desperately to Mei who gave him a weird look.
The girl was about to answer him but didn’t have the opportunity when the tall guy who was still standing at the corner butted in.
“Actually, I did,” The other said coolly and causally as if it was the natural thing to talk about. “I mean, I died in Africa along with the cactus. This is my ghost you’re talking to.”
The other smirk sarcastically making Kazuya more annoyed but he felt his knees trembled. The effect of Jin’s smile was the same as ever. He sighed shakily.
“So, Kazu babe~” Jin continued with a teasing grin pasted on his face and sat on the couch across them. “You’re in need of a partner? And from what I’ve heard, you need it soon.”
Kazuya cringed on the name the other called him; he hated it when he was being called ‘Babe’ as if he was a freaking girl. “It’s really your hobby to eavesdrop, aren’t you? Haven’t you learned the proper good manners back in grade school?” He mockingly said even though he was totally embarrassed that the other heard the whole conversation he and Mei had.
“I don’t really have intentions in listening to your conversation. I was quietly drinking my coffee when you both barged in here like some queens or princesses who owns the entire universe and then you started talking about your melodramatic problem.” Jin cheekily said.
“Don’t you have some initiative in your bones? You could have coughed to let us know that there’s an egoistic human being here, still breathing and alive!” the younger man countered back.
“How can I? When I was so fascinated with the drama going on?” The taller man looked so happy with himself.
ARGH! DAMN HIM! Kazuya gritted his teeth. “GO TO HELL! YOU FAT ASS!”
Jin just shrugged. “Been there.” He simply took a book in the nearest bookshelf and acted as if he was reading it.
GGRRR~! How can he just simply shrug away my blows on him?! Kazuya thought furiously, couldn’t take to be defeated that easily.
The younger man turned madly at his best friend who was trying really hard to suppress herself from laughing out loud. “Will you stop showing that weird expression on you face and just help me to murder this guy over here! I SWEAR, I’ll give you half of my wealth when I finally got it from Nana obaa-chan!”
Mei could no longer hold it and burst out laughing out loud like a crazy lady from mental institution while dragging her best friend out from the library. “BAKA! We’re not even sure if you’ll get Nana baa-chan’s inheritance ‘coz you still need a partner, remember?! Come on! Let’s eat! I’m hungry! You and Nii-chan really can make a person famished by watching your word blows to each other!”
The younger man frowned but nonetheless he suddenly asked a question which made Mei tripped on her own feet. “Is HE Married?”
Awkward silence. Then an ear piercing laughs came once again.
“BAKA KAZUYA! He’s not yet married! That’s impossible! I mean, if ever he got married in Africa, I could have told you that ne~!” The girl was still chuckling while holding her stomach, trying to stop. “Ahahaha~ you really never change towards Nii-chan! You’re always looking for a fight with him! GEEZ, you two have to grow up!”
Kazuya pouted as he plopped down on one of the chair in the kitchen and crossed his arms. “What? Now, I’m the evil one? Your brother is the one who needs to grow up! He’s a crazy man!” He defended himself. “Why did he come back anyway? No one’s missing him here.”
The younger man was about to say something again when a hand covered his mouth. “fhfdhhjj?!”
“SHH! Watch your mouth! If Ma heard you, you’re dead! And I AM SO dead too! Every human being in this house is being so sensitive, well, except for me and the robot numb Reio nii-chan. They’re like walking inside a glass house.”
Kazuya slowly removed Mei’s hand over his mouth, eyes full of interest. “Why? Something happened? Was Jin had some kind of a desert shock? Or cactus shock?” He thought hardly for some possibilities. Jin had spent four years in Africa; there was no doubt that the guy might have some trauma because of the deserted land. Not only that, some people in Africa really have some conflicts, as a correspondent, Jin must have seen it all.
“Have you ever heard about the youngest but strongest American Lady Ambassador, Jennifer Bleich?” Kazuya furrowed his eyebrows when the other asked him in whisper while leaning closely at him, like they were talking about some top secret.
He stared at her extremely, as if saying ‘Of course I know her! Stupid!’ Who wouldn’t know about her? Kazuya was working in a radio station, of course he totally knew about the famous Jennifer Bleich. That name had been the topic in every newspaper and in news t.v last month.
Jennifer Bleich was on the private plane which had crashed in the part of Amazon River, she was with an American pilot on the way to her assignment somewhere in the jungles of South America to help least fortunate kids and families when the accident happened. The pilot’s dead body had been found but hers was never found. Everyone believed that she was dead.
Kazuya arched an eyebrow. “So? What? What’s the big deal about her? Was Jin affected by the accident? He’s thinking that it might happen to him too? Like die on a plane crash? So, that’s why he came back?”
Mei shook her head. “Not that. Apparently, she has lived a very private life. So this was never mentioned in the news ‘coz only them knew about this...” She inhaled before continuing. “Well, she and Jin nii-chan went steady for almost a year until the accident happened.”
He bit his lower lip. “Oh shit…” somehow, he felt a fang of pain deep inside his heart. He didn’t like it one bit.
“Right. Double shit, worst than pee~ okay! It’s not Pi-chan!” Mei agreed and chuckled as she mentioned one of their friends, namely his big brother Jin’s best friend.
“So… he came back because he’s mourning?” He asked curiously.
Kazuya saw how his best friend’s face fell while putting down plates for their foods and nodded slowly. “I’m still a bit angry with him for not telling me about him and Jennifer’s relationship. You know how close we are, right? Of all people, he didn’t tell me about it to his very own sister.” She pouted childishly. “We haven’t talk anything seriously about it yet, but Kaa-chan told me that he’s planning to just stay here in Japan. He’s thinking of opening his own bookstore or some kind of a library-like-place in Osaka or maybe here in Tokyo. You know him, he’s into writing, reading and stuff.”
“He’s staying for good then…” He said simply.
“Un… considering such tragedy, it’s good for nii-chan to just settle down here.” Mei nodded her head. And they both fell silent, thinking far away.
They were too lost in their own world of thinking, not noticing Jin who just entered the kitchen and looked at them with a bored look.
“So… my little sister Mei, I assume you two have been talking about my oh-so-heartbreaking story of my life?” He broke the silence ironically as he leaned against the kitchen glass door. Clearly, the taller man didn’t like his guess and just using sarcasm to cover it all up.
Both of them were a bit surprised of Jin’s sudden appearance, especially Mei, because she had just told Kazuya about that sensitive topic that everyone in their house had been trying to avoid.
Though it was a sensitive topic, Kazuya couldn’t stop himself from snapping at the other man.
“What? Are you crazy? Why would we talk about an insane person like you? You’re assuming too much big fat Jin! As if there’s anything interesting about you! You’re not even a celebrity to begin with! I would rather open the topic about Ninja Turtles other than you!”
“Ninja Turtles huh…” The other smirked that made the younger man stood up heatedly.
“I changed my mind, Mei. I’m not going to stay overnight. I might get some creepy nightmares knowing that THAT GUY is here! What if I get up in my sleep and murder him? I don’t want to be put behind metal bars just because of him! NUH-UH! I’d rather go home and be safe!”
Jin walked passed them with a blank expression and placed his coffee mug on the sink before walking back towards the kitchen door to leave them. “As childish as ever, when will you grow up, Kazuya?” He said and shook his head, not bothering to look back at them.
Kazuya’s face crumpled like paper and was about to retort when Mei stopped him.
“SHEESH! Enough! Just ignore him. You should get use to him again ‘coz he’s going to stay here. Let’s just eat and plan ahead to search for your bride-or groom to be.”
Right, He thought miserable, thinking once again about his own problem. He must act soon; he couldn’t afford losing a fortune over Jin who was a total diversion she cannot afford.

“YOU KNOW, Eita have potentials. I can talk to him about my problem, I’ll convince him to agree to our temporary marriage and I’ll offer him some amount for compensation. We’ll get married at Canada then divorce after six months.” Kazuya told the other as they prepare for bed.
Mei snapped her head towards him and glared hard. HARD. And Kazuya received a hard pinched on his arm. “Are you awake now? ‘Coz if not, I’ll pinch you again so you’ll get rid that ridiculous idea out of your head!”
“You know that PERVY BASTARD are not going to agree for just a TEMPORARY marriage! I’m sure he’ll never gonna let you go! No matter how many times you’ll do back flips, splits or some flying matrix, he’s not going let you go! He likes your tight big ass too much to ram it with his cock, you know!” She added fast and furiously.
Kazuya’s eyes went wide and pinched the other back. “OI! Stop with those dirty words! Don’t forget that you’re a GIRL!”
“What?! I’m just saying the truth! And besides, you’re the one who made my brain corrupted. Well, if I still have brains left? I think your kinky stories back then already ate it.” Mei defended herself.
They looked at each other and burst out laughing.
After a couple of minutes, they fell silent as they lay down on Mei’s bed while looking at the ceiling which was full of glow in the dark smiley, moons, stars, stars and other cute stuff.
“Mei…”
“Hmmm?”
“I have another idea.”
“If you’re planning to ask me to be your ‘bride’, you know what my answer for that. It’s a BIG NO. NO. You hear me?” Mei answered calmly as she stretched out her arms, as if trying to reach the ceiling.
Kazuya turned to her and pouted. “Eeehhh~ how did you know that it’s my plan B?”
“I know how your small intestines’ way of thinking, Kame-chan~!” She chuckled and poked the other’s cheek. “We’ve been the best of friends since forever.”
Kazuya sighed. “Okay, your name and Eita’s will be crossed out on my list of ‘possible fake lover’.” He took a small notebook and a pen from his overnight bag and crossed out the only two names on the list.
Mei looked over, saw it and started laughing hard. “You’re TOTALLY serious about it?! MY GAWD!” she rolled over and over on the bed and Kazuya almost kicked her out of it.
“Of course, I am! BAKA!” He retorted outrageously.
“Why don’t you just ask girls out there? You know every girl out there is willing!” Mei pointed out.
He rolled his eyes. “You know too well that I prefer male over female when it comes to relationship. You know how clingy can a girl can be! I’ll be more lock up than Eita have in mind.”
“Ahahaha! OI! I’m a female too!” The petite girl felt offended but couldn’t help smiling.
“Sorry! Sometimes I forgot you are. But no offence, females are like that.” Kazuya hurriedly explained. “But you’re exemption. I know you better than them so I can be at ease.”
“Aw! Kame-chan’s being sweet~!” Mei jumped on him for the second time and hugged him tight.
Then she pulled away and looked at him straight.
“There’s only one choice you can do.” The other smiled foolishly. “Make an advertisement on the newspaper!” Mei rolled over and over again while holding her stomach and laughing out loud.
Kazuya laughed also. She’s definitely an exemption. He smiled and said, “WANTED: Temporary LOVER slash PARTNER. Willing to stay until process of my inheritance is complete. I offer fair compensation.”
They both burst into laughter once again.
“OKAY! Enough with this nonsense, my brain is getting dry because of this stressful problem and I’m thirsty! I’ll just go drink water. Need anything?” He asked as he stood up.
“Go ahead. I’m better off to dreamlands, might as well catch a good big balloon plan there while I’m at it. It might help us.” Mei yawns as she covered herself with her big blanket.
He smiled as he walked out of the room.
Kazuya knew the Akanishi house’s thread; he was already familiar with it already. It had been his second home ever since he met Mei back in high school.
Even though the lights were off, he made his way down the stairs. When he reached the kitchen, he groped for the light switch and turned it on.
He almost got a heart attack in shock; he covered his mouth to stop himself from shrieking.
There in the darkness, a figure sitting comfortable in a chair while having silently sipping his coffee.
Jin.
