Hello jemauvais,

I came across this very interesting post purely by accident, and I am glad I did. You see I am, just like you, a big fan of the old Kai Tak airport. How much you ask?

Well, I spent three years re-creating the airport (as well as the Hong Kong area), for Microsoft Flight Simulator so that real-world pilots and armchair pilots alike could test their skills and see if they could land a jumbo jet using the infamous "Checkerboard Approach"
(check out my website: http://www.milehighproductions.cwhnetworks.com )

The reason I write is you have a photo of an aerial view of Kai Tak taken in 1994 that is hanging in the HKAC building there. I would like to get a copy of that photo (in digital form), so I may update my project with more detail. Would you have any connections to the club or names of people who I might be able to contact regarding this?

You can email me at 9dragonskaitak(at)gmail.com

Long Live "The Tak",

Clutch

I thoroughly enjoyed this article. I was not too late to fly the checkerboard approach, at least as a passenger. I spent a few days in Hong Kong in 1982 and again in 1987, and landed on rwy 13 both times. Sadly, I didn't visit Checkerboard Hill either time. 1982 was my first time to fly, and by 1987 I still hadn't become interested in aviation. I took the obligatory night photos from Victoria Peak on Kodachrome 64, but don't remember taking any of the airport ( ... )
