I don't grieve over Ronald Reagan's death. I didn't jump for joy either. It didn't have much affect on me at all. However, I do feel for Nancy as she mourns the death of her longtime love.

Yesterday or so I remembered that when he was being sworn in, I hid in my room and cried for hours. My first diary, which is still in my mom's house, documents it in my kid handwriting. I think he was really damaging, espcially domestically. And it seems crazy to me that someone as powerful as a U.S. president could be treated so positively by the mainstream press. There should be dissent at least.

Still I can't help but get caught up by mourning rituals. Nancy just looks like a frail old woman who is lost without her husband. That is sad. And I wouldn't wish Alzheimer's on anyone. A friend of mine pointed out during Nixon's funeral that there are some gestues, like that "missing man" formation that they fly over presidential funeral, just evoke sadness. I've still managed to get mad at myself for that.
