Dinner!

Sep 22, 2007 22:36

N and I cooked a nice piece of rib eye for dinner tonight. Steak frites with gorgonola cheese and a brandy peppercorn pan sauce and a salad of sliced cucumbers (fresh from N's mom's garden!) with rice vinegar.

Yum!!

I have been corrected...it was Danish Blue cheese, not gorgonzola...or gorgonola, for that matter. What *is* gorgonola, anyway?

Oh dear...I understand. It was kind of like that living with Bryce. I would have to go to the basement and find something else from my boxes when I wanted to cook. *sigh*

How's the new job?

Yay indeed! And I love making pan sauces.

The cool thing is the brandy peppercorn sauce was a total improvisation. I was going to deglaze the pan with some red wine, add a little garlic, perhaps some dry mustard...but the red wine I was going to use had corked and gone bad. So I frantically searched my liquor cabinet to find something else to use. I was about to use the last of my Crown Royal when I remembered I had brandy. And some whole milk in the fridge. A few grinds of pepper and a couple of tablespoons of butter later, it was sauce!

How did the delicata work out in your curry the other night?

Mmm! Isn't culinary improv fun? :D The delicata worked well. I steamed it and used it to thicken the curry. It's rare I do a curry w/o coconut milk, but this time it worked really well.
