Well, I'm going to wait. There's no point in heading down to Katrina-ville on my own if they don't know where to put me -- a doctor without supplies realistically isn't much use. But I did send email to the folks at UMDNJ who have been coordinating things on our end, and I have registered on the Federal website (www.hhs.gov) -- if Louisiana isn't ready for an influx of medical personnel, maybe other states in the area are.
It would make sense to me if I were told, "Louisiana has cancelled its request, but we expect you to be deployed under Federal leadership sometime in the next week." Or, "Louisiana isn't ready to accept healthcare workers just yet; we expect them to have a tent city ready for us in a few days." Or almost any statement that recognized an ongoing need.
Chaos has reigned from the start. Hopefully, all will come together in short order and you'll be down there doing your Jenly thing and making things better.
