How I ran a marathon

Feb 17, 2012 11:25

I've got a couple of metaphorical marathons going on in my life right now. I'm trying to finish my adult romance by March 1, and the first pass of Such a Rush is due back to the publisher on March 6. This is the first time I've seen the text as it will actually look in the finished book, and y'all, the design is SO PRETTY.

I love your honestly with the marathon thing. So many people just seem to do it. I MIGHT push myself to do a 5K one day, but I'm not into running, jumping and things like that. I like low impact! :)

Your book design is GORGEOUS!!!

Thank you! And low impact can be great exercise too!

If you're looking for a marathon or mini-marathon, might I suggest the Derby Festival Marathon:

And there are two races run at the same time -- a full marathon, and a half-marathon. But if you're interested, you might want to go ahead and register, because I think there's a cutoff point.

I am so glad that you shared this! I got into running last year around this time to get in shape for my wedding in June. So I ran a couple of days a week and ran a couple of 5ks (all of the Disney ones in the past year). After my wedding, I stopped running completely, except for 3 5ks (which I didn't run at all for beforehand). But now my friend and I have decided to run a 10k at the end of March. Yikes! I've never run that far! I found a 10k running program and am on week 3. Tomorrow I have to run 4 miles..yup, never run that far and I'm worried! I'm finding that after I run, I hurt. Not my muscles because I stretch before and after, but my bones. If that makes any sense. Did you experience any of that? if so, how did you overcome it? And did you grow to love running? Right now I HATE it, and only enjoy the races I do! But we're thinking that if the 10k doesn't kill us, we're going to try the Tower of Terror Ten Miler in September and then MAYBE they Princess Half Marathon next February ( ... )

If your bones hurt...I don't know what that means. A trip to the doctor might be in order.

However, I did definitely hate running for the first few weeks of the 10K program, but after week 5 or so, I felt like I couldn't do without it. So for the past 7 years I've felt like something was missing from my day if I didn't run.

Are you shoes good? Are your clothes made for running/made of wicking fabric? Are you listening to music or books on tape?

I feel good today..just ran my longest distance yet of 4 miles (the same thing happened last weekend where I felt good on the long run but hurt on the shorter runs during the weekday). I'm not sure about the shoes--they're Nikes but that's all I know. The clothes are made out of wicking material and on the days I run I listen to music and the cross training/walking days I listen to books. But maybe if you've hated it until week 5, then I'll start to like it in 2 more weeks!

The most I have ever run is 7 miles, and that was because I got lost.

LOL! Sounds like something that would happen to me.

Yeah, what you eat the night before you run long has a huge effect on how you perform the next day. You need fuel. You can't really take care of that and lose a lot of weight at the same time.
