Ranty Rant!

This is just so random - I never post anything here.  But I have to say this, and I'm wondering if the possibly, oh, 10 people on my flist have noticed this and feel the same way ( Read more... )

Can I add to that...any sentence with "green orbs" makes me cringe.

Oh, yes, that's worth a cringe, all right...

Better yet, "jade orbs". *facepalm* Suddenly all I can see is these two floating glowing balls springing out of a character's eye sockets. Hmm, sounds like a horror fic...

Hee!

This isn't exactly the same, but I've always had issues with "golden tresses" or other MarySue-like descriptions...

I'm pretty sure I've used some variation of that in the past, lol! Meh, we all have our peeves I guess, lol!

What gets me is inappropriate names for certain appendages. Nothing throws me out of a nice sensual or hot piece of fiction like the wrong terminology. AND I totally get that 'wrong' terminology is in the eye of the reader ;)

Writing any fic these days?

Hee, yes, pet peeves abound! I'm sure I've used words and phrases time and again that drive other people crazy...

(Writing fic? Well, a bit... Got sucked into Merlin back in series 1, and I'm slowly making my way through a story. Almost done with part 2! Part 3 will no doubt take six months, as I seem to write at the speed of a melting glacier. If only I weren't so darn lazy! lol!)

Space channel up here just aired a Merlin marathon - seasons 1 and 2 back to back in preparation for airing the first ep of s3 this coming Saturday. I haven't seen them all and am not entirely sucked in but probably watched about 10 or more of the eps during the marathon. I'd caught a few previously but never nailed down exactly when it aired up here so watched it very sporadically.

For a show that often comes off as cheesy to me, I'm surprised how often it can actually move me to tears or near tears. No shock here, of course, but the chemistry between our two male leads is quite adorable though so that's what I enjoy most.

I'm quite excited to hear you're writing a fic for it though! You must post it here so I'll get a prompt to read it :)

When Merlin gets it right, they really get it right. There are some things that annoy the hell out of me about it, but at the core is Merlin and Arthur. And since I've been in love with King Arthur since I was about 8 or 10, this show just pushes most of my buttons....Even if I do occasionally snark about the anachronisms! But that's not important - it's those boys. Love 'em. :)

As for posting, ye gods, I know eleventy billion other people have no issues with posting here, but I can't make it work and I've given up out of sheer frustration! I'll send you a personal invitation when the story is done and up!

That one bugs me, too. But I have many pet peeves. *g*

Oh, I have more, too, but this one just seems to hit me right between the eyes. And I'm pretty sure I've ranted to you about this one in the past...

Some things are worth ranting about multiple times. *g*

Hey, there!

I practically gag when I read that line too LOL

Now, I admit I may well have used it myself back in the day, though I'm not totally sure of it. If so, it would've been in my Mag7 days - I can't imagine having used it with SPN or Lancer. It's so cliche and overused. And I'm totally with heather03nmg on the "orbs" usage. Unless someone's talking about a supernatural phenomenon, I don't want to see "orbs" in any story!

Hey, back!

Well, there's probably a statute of limitations or something - you're safe! Oh, M7 - I've been away from that for so long...*sigh* Oh, Vin. *g*

But I'm glad that line works its magic on you, too - I feel better....I even saw it in a profic novel - by one of my favorite fantasy authors, and I just howled. I think I yelled "OH, MARTHA!" If I were the type of person to throw books across the room, I would've done it right then and there.

LOL, at least I can say that I never wrote a MarySue story like so many fic authors do their first time around ;)

I even saw it in a profic novel

OMG, I think I would've howled - either from laughter or frustration, I don't know which ;)

Gah. I have no idea if I've used that or not. Now I kinda want to go back and do a search through all my fics to see if it's there.

*ponders*

It does sound like something I might say, though. Or might've said. Or could think. *crawls under desk*

LOL! Well, considering how many other completely *brilliant* words you've written, I'm sure you can be forgiven if it ever cropped up! But hey, it's just a very personal pet peeve that sets my teeth on edge. Don't crawl under your desk, even if you've ever, ever used it in all your millions of words....

You can poke at my fic and tell me if there's anything that makes you scream. *g*

The only screaming I've done while reading your fics is in delight. I recently got a Kindle (thank you, Santa) and I'm trying to find time to copy/paste "No Traveler Returns" into a PDF so I can upload it and read on my Kindle when I travel. Heh. Travel. Funny.

Anyway, it is and shall remain one of my favorites. And I will read it until I release a breath I don't realize I'm holding. ;)

LOL!!

Keep breathing, Gaelic!

(And thank you for those lovely words. How do you like the Kindle, btw?)
