WHYYYYYYYYYYYY is shipping things international so freakin' COMPLICATED?!?!?  *sigh*  Looks like I need to make a trip to the UPS Store after all...  Was REALLY hoping I wouldn't have to do that.

Shipping internationally is always interesting. If it's just a letter, than it's easy. Though depending on the country, you may have to declare a dollar amount anyway (Hello Japan!). If it's bigger than a letter, then it goes through customs, etc.

A coworker just received a $1500 Irish Dancing dress from N. Ireland, and the stupid bint that sent it didn't ship it in a box. Customs went thought the package and practically destroyed the packaging and ruined the dress. Sequins missing, strange grimy parts, some of which looked like MOLD. Terrible. Now my coworker has to return the dress.

If you're not going to go through your post office, then The UPS store is definitely the way to go, unless you already have an account with UPS/FedEx/etc. The FedEx internet interface guides you through the process.

It shouldn't be too bad! As long as it isn't food, you should just have to have a little green customs form stuck to the outside indicating the value and contents. (No sending surprises! Unless you are really skilled at being vague. :))

Other than that, you just have to know how to address it properly according to the country you're sending to.

I just recently sent and received stuff to/from the US and it was no problem. (I even got home-made jam! yum! From the US and no probs at all.) It does suck when customs decides to paw through it, but in my experience that doesn't happen very often.

Unless you're sending a keychain to Japan. THEN they open it. *rolleyes* Might be dangerous you know!
