haven't been around in ages, but I'm obsessing

May 08, 2009 09:06

My Husband's brother is getting married and having a no child wedding.
I am OBSESSING about this, because-- well, they are such a fucking "family oriented" family supposedly.
I understand that they don't want a bunch of kids running around their wedding, but how do you NOT invite your nephews?

Hi there! *waves*

Usually the way to handle the kids is put them to work at the very least! Geeze... ring bearers?? Ushers???

Wow, that's super annoying. I'd be tempted to say, "Thanks for the invite; sorry we can't make it since we'll be home with the kids!"

I think the way to handle this is not take it personally. It has nothing to do with your kids, he just doesn't want kids there at all. And I think that's a fair enough want.

And i understand not wanting your college roommates kids, or second cousin's kids, or kids you don't know. But this is practically immediate family.
Children are people, aren't they? When did weddings become these pristine events when everything had to be so perfect that family gets left out?

I just think it's a person's perogative to hold the wedding they want, not what their family wants. If they don't want kids there, they don't want kids there. I guess I just think this is as big a deal as you choose to make it. (I am not against children at weddings, I had children at mine, I just wouldn't care if someone didn't want any children at their wedding.)

if someone said no children at a wedding, i'd be like, ok, then i won't be attending your wedding as i have a child. and childcare is not as easy to come by as people without kids seem to think it is.
