RIP Edward Hardwicke

Just got the word from a tweet Mark Gatiss posted. There's a short announcement in The Stage:

"Edward Hardwicke, who played Dr Watson in the Granada television adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, starring Jeremy Brett, has died at the age of 78.

I saw this earlier and I'm just verklempt. I feel badly for his family and they are in my thoughts at this sad time.

I'm heartbroken - i have so many of his letters and he meant so much to me. I will miss his kindness - he was so wonderful.

This is such upsetting news. It will seem so strange watching Sherlock Holmes knowing he's not around any more. :-(
