To NaNoWriMo or not to NaNoWriMo...

Oct 27, 2010 16:00

I'll admit it, I'm kind of terrified by the idea of having to write 50,000 words in a month because that's so not how I write. I'm more of the 'write a little bit, obsess over it for two weeks and then write a little bit more' type of person. Then again, maybe that means that it'd be good for me ( Read more... )

I think the part that has me the most excited about this post is the fact that NaNo means Lighthouse Charlie will be finished soon. i can't wait.

Actually on second thought, that means we'll never have any more charlie and max once you finish...

I'm torn between wanting to read it and never wanting it to end.

As for a NaNoWriMo cliche? How about drunken wedding hijinks? That's always my favourite type of wedding ;p

Oh yes, Lighthouse Charlie is pretty much done. I finished the first draft last night so I'll spend the next couple of days editing and then that'll be that! It'll be sad to let Max and Charlie go because they were awesome fun to write, I'm glad you'll miss them too.

Drunken wedding hijinks. Hmm, see, just a little idea and my brain is already whirring with the possibilities.

Thank you so much!

You had me at your picture of Stevie G...! A Stevie lover from Adelaide? You couldn't be any cooler. Absolutely add me as a writing buddy...whatever that is. I'm a complete novice at this NaNo thing and must admit that I haven't scouted around the site much yet.

Could always do something with the good girl and the gorgeous bad-boy-who's-not-really-bad-but-actually-really-sweet.

Although that might cross over a bit with Max. Hmmmmmmmm.

NO, sad times about the epilogue! :( Buuuuuuut super excited at the prospect of a new story :D

Yeah, I'm a massive fan of the good girl and not-so-bad boy cliche, but, you're right, I just sort of did that with Max and Charlie. And with Isobel and Lucas a little bit. Still, that's not to say elements of that won't be in my NaNoWriMo story.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for epilogues, but I think once you read the chapter it'll work. It basically is like an epilogue because we do jump ahead a few months. But, yeah, if you're still dissatisfied at the end let me know because in my head I've pretty much mapped out Max and Charlie's future until the end of time!

Cheers for responding to my question. New story ahoy!

I agree with miss_fighera. sad to have max and charlie gone :( but happy for another chapter... also sad about not having an epilogue tho

hmm what about the best-friends-since-childhood-but-haven't-realized-their-feelings-for-each-other-until-other-people-point-it-out cliche (whew that was a mouthful!)

Aww, I'm totally feeling the Charlie and Max love. I am hoping the last chapter will do them justice and justify the lack of an epilogue. I'm so proud of LC considering I originally wrote it as a way to blast through writers block.

Ooh, yes, I do like that cliche. I have a sort of an idea that would fit around that. Hmm, I'm loving these ideas, they're really getting me excited now.

Thank you!

It is a scary boat to be in, for sure! My boat has now sailed though because I've decided to register and at least try. I'm seriously sceptical about my chances of succeeding however...!

Best friends, I'm really heading in this direction now, it seems to be a common theme. Haha, basically I want to pull together all the suggestions into one story, maybe I'll try!

Thank you, and good luck if you decide to go for it too. We can be terrified together!

Do NaNo! I'd be all for a love triangle, in which you could include some of the aforementioned cliche suggestions, if you'd like. I think well-written love triangles are hard to come by; I'm talking about the kind where the love interests are equally built up in different ways and the readers will likely feel torn about any decision. ;)

Yep, you've got me, I am doing NaNo. Yikes, I'm thinking of everything that's coming up in November and wondering what on earth I just agreed to.

I'm so scared of love triangles, I seriously am. There's an ongoing joke in my group of friends that I always, ALWAYS barrack for the person who doesn't get the girl/guy. It's a weird talent I have, but there you go. I wonder how that would work if I was writing it. Considering my skill at picking the wrong couple I'd probably STILL get it wrong!

I like your distinction between a bad love triangle and one which is built up properly, I totally agree. I always want to care for both the suitors otherwise what's the point? That being said, I might leave a love triangle for some time other than NaNoWriMo because I sense it would be really hard to write!

Cheers for your reply and your idea, you've got me thinking!

You know, that knack you have for picking the wrong couple might come in handy for making the love triangle more unpredictible if and when you do get around to writing one. ;) But I agree that something like that might be better off being written later, with more time to plan out the intricacies of each relationship and do the love triangle justice.

I'm excited to see that you've decided on your cliche! I'm personally not so sure about the drunk wedding theme, but I look forward to seeing your spin on it. :)

Haha, it would definitely be unpredictable. I'd probably in the end decide that both the suitors were too awesome for the person in the middle who couldn't make up his/her mind and write in that NOBODY gets together in the end!

Don't worry about the drunk wedding hook up, that's not the cliche, although there will be a wedding in it. Or at least one mentioned a few times.

Cheers for getting in touch, I'm feeling very spoilt!
