Personal canon... and fic?

I have no fiction, but I have a personal canon. Somewhere in the process of trying to write it down, it might have become fic. Or at least the promise of fic.

(Definitely not mine. Borrowing someone else's creations.)

Sara is not a victim.

I have to say, I agree with your personal canon on this point - given the way she's dealt with cases of sexual assault, she definitely has a lot of sympathy for the victim, but not in a way that would make me think she's been there herself. It's the physical domestic violence that tends to make her really go off.

Interesting idea about the roommate, too...

I think a lot of personal canon isn't just reacting to how the characters are on the show, but how they're portrayed in fic. I've seen a lot of stories that take the "Sara was assaulted" route, and none of them have struck me as being entirely convincing. I started thinking about why that was the case.

The roommate comes from the fact that she sometimes exhibits an almost desperate desire to nail the attackers, as though she were being chased on by the memory of one that got away. There's more to this story - her roommate pressed charges, but the physical evidence wasn't conclusive (this was in the days before DNA testing), and the accused had an excellent lawyer. He walked. Sara has never forgotten the look on her roommate's face when the verdict was announced.
