LAID OFF

Mar 13, 2009 16:36

Uhhh... I'm jobless.

I do qualify for unemployment, which one of my former coworkers got. But wow. This is the first time in who knows how long that I've been jobless.

Should I celebrate? Freak out? Look for other work?

Crazy.

1) Get unemployment
2) Celebrate
3) Look for other work.

Sorry to hear, also.

shit, that kinda came outta nowhere huh?
did they give you any advance pay?
i would say since the economy and job market suck, you should start looking soon, might not be able to find anything for a while.

Not really- traffic is ridiculously low, no one is buying shit, and my hours have been shaved continuously. They gave me a few days notice, but they've been laying off others and cutting pay left and right, so I'm not particularly shocked.

Yeah, as much as I'd like to enjoy the unemployment and chill, I may not find another job for a WHILE in this economy. Scary stuff.

What happened? Yes, the economy sucks, but if you're in the right place at the right time, you will find something else. I think unemployment is a good place to start.

Downsizing. My manager was really cool about it, and she felt terrible having to deliver the news. Shes good for references in the future and said she'd rehire me in a second if all of a sudden people start buying shit again, and she'll move as fast as possible on my unemployment paperwork so I can get full benefits.

But DAMN, this is scary! No job, full time school, no tangible skills and a world economic system that has "fallen off a cliff". Yikes.

Can you start milking the massage therapy thing at all? I know you're not licensed yet, but can you give private sessions?

Yeah, if I gave private sessions and get caught, I could be barred from ever getting licensed. Same goes for if I get caught whoring, which is a little scary, so both are kind of a no-go.

I've been thinking about applying for more clerical/janitorial positions at spas, and using the massage school thing for more pull. I dunno.. blehh
