Last night we had an impromptu dessert party and I made Strawberry Shortcake for a couple of friends and it turned out pretty good.

The cakes were a bit more dense than expected but I did have a few substitutions (skim milk instead of heavy cream, no food processor so I had to mix it all with a fork).  The one substitution that i liked was using

I had strawberry shortcake last night too! With berries from the market :)

Ours were plain old conventional berries from Krogers but good all the same :)

I'm stuck at work for awhile but may need a drink later...eve?
