Well I guess the problem with perfection is that everybody knows that nobody/nothing can acheive it. People are always looking for the perfect diet/happiness/job/vacation/friend/relationship. We have a Steller sea lion at the Marine Mammal Center and everybody thinks he's cute. I guess that's not too surprising, because most people find baby animals cute, but it seems to me that the traits we find attractive in animals are the exact ones we dislike in humans. My little sister started her first day back at Redwood today. I'm glad UCSD doesn't start that early and even more so I'm glad I now go to UCSD and not Redwood. For those who don't know domoic acid is a nasty biotoxin produced by Psuedonitzia diatoms. It causes the hippocampus to atrophy which in humans leads to amnesic shellfish poisoning and in sea lions leads to seizures, scratching, and reduced feeding ability. I've never met a human who has been affected by it, but we've had a lot of poisoned sea ( Read more... )
