I'm reading Dan Savage's "Skipping Towards Gomorrah", which I'm pretty sure most of my LJ friends have read. I just finished the gluttony chapter and saw a quote I had to share.

Well, yes. The whole point of the book is a retort to the 'virtucrats' who write books telling us how America is on a moral slide & how we *should* live our lives.

The greed chapter was a little weird for me too. I don't deny that I'm strongly drawn to material things, but I'm *not* drawn to gambling in excess. That one and the anger chapter (guns) didn't quite seem to make sense to me. I still enjoyed Dan's writing but it didn't seem in either case like he really picked the action that matches the sin.

Anyway, glad you're enjoying it! Apfel is right, I've lent it out more than once -- in fact when I saw you post I reflexively looked around to see if my copy was on my bookshelf. :)

P.S. I did a search but I don't think I posted about it, which makes sense since I was reading it right around Xmas '02 (I remember because I'd just gotten engaged) and that was pre-LiveJournal.
