If you are talking about Renee Walker getting killed on 24, then I am completely with you. Her death was unnecessary and gratuitous. And really, hasn't Jack suffered enough?
I am talking about Renee. As you said, her death was completely unnecessary and Jack has suffered enough for many lifetimes. Why does he need to suffer more? Why can't he finally find someone to be happy with and not have them die or crazy and then die. He deserves a happy ending.
Also, I can't see why this was done. We've seen Jack suffer though a death before, like in the past episode! What benefit does this serve the overall story. Unless the point is to make Jack at the lowest he can possibly be, I don't see it. Even if that is the point, it's been done before!!! Don't get it one bit and hopefully we find out its purpose before the show is over.
That was my biggest complaint about last night's episode. Well, other than putting a woman in charge of a Muslim nation (which wouldn't happen in real life).
I also feel that Jack has suffered enough. And you know he was having flashbacks about what happened to Teri! But people who live lifestyles like that never can be happy as much as they try.

She was the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan which is an Islamic Nation.
And Jack must suffer, that his his lot in life. No fun watching otherwise.
