Reviewing this year is a little strange when there's so much stuff I've not been able to write; certainly there's more unspoken news on here than in previous years. Unspoken but not hidden, for these of all my entries rely less on obfuscation

If you've not been following, here's the same take on the world from 2003, 2004 and 2005

  1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? Live in foreign parts
  2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?Instead of resolutions I continued to explore my Uberlist; work pressures meant only a third of it
  3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No
  4. Did anyone close to you die? Pa, The Constant Gardener
  5. What countries did you visit? Scotland, England, Viet Nam, South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand, England and England
  6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? Time; I seem to be swinging between enough time and enough space
  7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? New Year's Eve, a shadow of things to come
  8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Finally delivering
  9. What was your biggest failure? Postponing one of my MSc modules until next year
  10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Asthma
  11. What was the best thing you bought? Tatami
  12. Whose behavior merited celebration? mr_ck, Mitch
  13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Expat men
  14. Where did most of your money go? Debt or rent and mortgage
  15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? People visiting
  16. What song will always remind you of 2006? "Sweet Child Of Mine" by Guns 'n' Roses; for all those Insomnia nights
  17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
    • Happier or sadder? Happier

  18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Study, travel, relax
  19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Work
  20. How will you be spending Christmas? With family
  21. Did you fall in love in 2006? I'm not sure; it's a rabbit hole question
  22. How many one-night stands? None
  23. What was your favorite TV program? Watched only one program this year, unless you count watching Firefly on DVD, which was excellent
  24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? No, I don't do hate
  25. What was the best book you read? The Dark Tower by Stephen King
  26. What was your greatest musical discovery? The Gotan Project
  27. What did you want and get? Deltas on my worldview
  28. What did you want and not get? Guitar lessons, Mandarin lessons
  29. What was your favorite film of this year? Tough call, either Grave of the Fireflies or Lie With Me
  30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Worked late, went home and read a little. I was 29
  31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Being better at juggling, metaphorically
  32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006? Short-sleeved
  33. What kept you sane? Books
  34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? None, I don't do people from afar
  35. What political issue stirred you the most? World Bank visit to Singapore
  36. Who did you miss? nearly_everyone, but especially euphuistica
  37. Who was the best new person you met? euphuistica
  38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006: You're not the friendless boy in the corner anymore
