Yuletide Letter - Really, stupid delayed.
Dear Yuletide Santa...
Yes, I know I'm weeks late. It's been a hectic few weeks and I've been sick and holiday and work and everything, that I just haven't had the energy for it. So, yeah... I'm really sorry and I do hope you read this. And if you already have an idea, go for it! Ignore the rest of what I'm about to say and don't worry about it. Otherwise, lemme copy and past a few things from my previous years.
Thank you so much for writing me something in one of my odd little fandoms. Yuletide is always one of the bright spots of the year for me and I love every fic I've ever gotten and I know I'm going to love whatever you write me. But I do want to go into a little more detail about what I do like in fics and in my fandoms and maybe give you a few ideas. :)
Well, I really like angst, but I like happy endings more, and I especially love angsty stories with happy endings. At the same time, I'm also a huge sucker for good old fashion fluff and romance and love and well, all that sort of stuff. Feel free to do whatever, just... please don't make me cry, 'kay? And I like my characters, well - in character. If you decide to write a sex scene, I certain won't be upset, but I'm really not big on PWP and I like my sex pretty vanilla. And it's the characters I love and their interactions together. As long as it's good, I'm just as happy with a gen story as I am with a relationship fic. I am, at heart, a slasher/yaoi-fan/whatever you want to call it, so with the exception of Crest of the Stars, for the most part, I would prefer slash to het if you're going to make it a romance. Also, while I have my favorite characters in each fandom, I like the rest of the cast too so don't feel like you have to limit yourself to just them.
Journey to the West (Xi You Ji) - If you've gone through my old yuletide letters, you'd have seen this is the one request I've asked for every year because this book is so much love for me and I know one year somebody will get around to writing it. However, if it's not you this year, I certainly understand and can't wait to see what you've written instead. But if it is you... I love Saiyuki, please, don't use that anime for this. I actually adore the original Chinese novels its based off, especially Monkey who was a freakin' lot more intelligent than he is in Saiyuki. I'm not looking for any romance here, but I certainly won't turned it down. If you don't want to fit something into the original storytelling, perhaps a more serious retelling of the series set in a modern world? I love the humor of the series, the sense of adventure, and as always, the characters.
The Forbidden Kingdom - One of my favorite adaptations of the Monkey legend. Yes, it has it flaws and the American kid in the middle of everything does have me scratching my head sometimes, but... I just love it. Jet Li and Jackie Chan stole the show from the very beginning for me and really, Jet Li's Monkey King was one of the most faithful to the spirit of Monkey King I've seen. Also, Jet Li's and Jackie Chan's love for the original story shines through the entire thing. Again, like Journey to the West, I'd love something focused on Monkey King in either one of his guises and if you're up to it, I'd really love a romance (of sorts - it is still Monkey King, after all) with Monkey King and Old Hop (Jackie Chan's character.)
Boy Meets Boy - I loved this webcomic since Lauren first introduced me to it years and years ago, however, I admit, I'm really a fan of the non-canon pairings. Despite my favorite pairing being Mik/Cy, I actually asked for a Mik/Skids pairing this year - mainly as it's something I'd love to see somebody else's take on it. Mik/Skids always seemed like one of those pairings that might actually work out if given a chance. They both have an enjoyment in art, Skids can be rather serious when he wants to be and lighthearted enough to drag Mik out of his studio and out to have fun. Also, I suspect that Skids idea of fun might be more to Mik's style than Harley's tended to be. As for Skids, I think Mik could help ground him, make him feel more confident (and don't tell me a childhood of getting stuffed in toilets and being overweight doesn't leave its mark), and they might make it work. :) Either established relationship, just really good friends, or first time romance. Oh - I pretty much ignore most of the end of the comic so feel free to make this as an alternate reality as you want. And you can also read a shipping meme I did on BmB many years ago.
Crest of the Stars/Sekkai Trilogy. (All three series are good.) - This is rather short, but personally, I always adored the moments when it's just Jinto and Lafiel being themselves around each other. If you've seen the anime, you'll know what I mean. The other characters are wonderful too, but it's them together that I love the most. Gen or romance is happy - as long as they're happy. No sad fics for this please.
So, again, I'm so sorry Yuletide Santa that I didn't get this to you sooner. Please, take these offerings of pixie sticks and cocoa and this picture of a kitty I had once and know that whatever you write, I'm going to love it.
