One more show that's done for now.

I was supposed to go camping, but halfway on the drive down to the campground, we were told to turn around and go home because Mother Nature decided to rain on our parade. So instead of camping, we ended up having an impromptu shindig at our friend’s house to eat all the food we bought for it. And drink. And watch Mortal Kombat. *shudders ( Read more... )

I'm curious what you think River whispers in Ten's ear in Silence in the Library to get him to trust her. It was supposedly his name?

Great overview! :-)

Oh, it's definitely his name! He even says at the end "You knew my name, there's only one reason why I'd ever tell you my name blah blah blah." I just think that maybe at some future point, he actually DOES say it.

PS. His name is Kurtis.

I thought maybe she got it from his cradle?

And LOL - it's not Cosmo?

OH. That's a good point! I hadn't thought of that before!

KURTIS COSMO THE THIRD.

>>It also makes sense that you never see future!Doctor’s TARDIS at all in Utah.<<

It does. But where was his TARDIS? On a Tessawhatsis mother ship? Stashed back on...Calisto B?

My biggest upset with the episode is realizing that River's reaction to finding young(er) Doctor back in diner (which was so poignant and powerful as we saw it in TIA)can now be seen as just an act. Because Time snapping back means she remembers the Doctor didn't die, right?

I'm so confused.

Yeaaaaaaaaah. I kind of liked that she forgot. Or appeared to have forgotten. It was nice to see River, for once, in the dark about something.

You can see his TARDIS inside the Tesselector when River looks into his eye.

OH CAN YOU? I was too distracted by Eleven HAMMING IT UP at his own glee that he was inside himself.

I LOVED the random Dickens. Loved-loved-loved.

And yeah, I'm thinking "the fall of the Eleventh" is them being meta. I bet the Eleventh doesn't fall until the Eleventh Doctor regenerates....

OMG! I did not remember that about SitL/FotD!!!!! THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY! I have to re-watch River Song's whole arc, I really do.

Hahahaha! Secretariat dance!

I loved this episode. I kind of really loved this season.

ETA: Good call on future!Doctor's missing TARDIS in Utah!

Unexpected!Dickens for the win!

Someone's comment to a friend's entry elsewhere pointed out that the Question itself is fairly meta. Doctor Who? A question that stares you in the face every week when the opening credits roll!

To be honest, I wasn't that much of a fan of SitL/FotD the first time around. Out of Moffat's stories in RTD's era, I personally found them to be the weakest out of the lot. I didn't hate them, I was just... indifferent, I suppose. But on rewatches, I like them more and more, and it was so weird watching them today. I haven't really seen an RTD/Tennant episode since... the Specials, I guess, and seeing Tennant running around was so surreal ( ... )

The first time I watched SitL/FotD, I was with you, in that I thought it was by far Moffat's weakest outing. I watched it multiple times, as I almost always do with DW, and I have to say, by the third viewing, I was in floods of tears over the moving, touching brilliance of it. I still think it's a triumph, a gorgeous fairy-tale of an episode arc, and I think that it grows more astonishing to me the more we learn about River Song.

But I'm with you, I've stumbled across a couple of S3 episodes on BBCA recently, and it's so jarring. It was *such* a different show. As you say, not better or worse, just *different.*

I am such an uncritical viewer. It never even occurred to me to wonder where his TARDIS was! Ha!

Yeah, I kept thinking about SitL/FotD when we got to know River more and more (and me liking her more and more). The more I thought about it, the sadder those episodes go. And then I actually watched them. ;_____;

I showed "Blink" to work friends months ago, but that's such a stand alone episode, it wasn't AS bad? Maybe during the break between Christmas and S7, I'll do a rewatch of S1-S4.

It's what I look for!

Yeah, I kept my mouth shut on it as well as a few other issues I've had with the season mostly because I had seen constant bitching and moaning on Twitter/Tumblr/LJ. I thought it was stupid to complain about something when we hadn't SEEN everything yet, you know?

But now I can. And yes. That one was my biggest problem. I mean, the fact that Amy was pregnant and didn't know it raises a whole other issue, but let's not go into that either. I also have some issues about Amy's character as well. I hate using the word "fiesty" but there was something about S5!Amy that S6!Amy lacked.

That blue head guy for some reason kept reminding me of Varys in Game of Thrones.

CANNOT UNSEE.

OH YEAH, and the Doctor's hair was sooooooo bad this who episode. HAD IT BEEN WASHED. WHY WAS IT LIKE KENTUCKY FALLS IN THE BACK. // Deepest thought.

DOCTOR, YOU OBVIOUSLY HAD TIME TO SHAVE, COULDN'T YOU JUST SNIP A COUPLE OF INCHES OFF YOUR HEAD AS WELL?!

I'm just glad someone else felt that way. I'm not super involved with the fandom, but it seemed like no one even cared! I had some issues with Amy being pregnant and not knowing- I guess just because there was no time to process it. She went from being silly Amelia Pond to OMG PREGNANT HERE COMES THE BB. So we were all trying to catch up, process omg- Amy is A MOM. But by then the newborn was gone. THEN for the characters to just go home and reappear with a random bestie to "go kill Hitler!" without ANYONE sitting and thinking that through, or asking about the baby, I had a really hard time following. There was literally one ep where the Doctor was all, "What should we do today?" and I was all, "FOLLOW UP ON OUR NEWBORN CHILD." (I LIKED those fun episodes too, just in context of what was going on with the characters they were weird ( ... )

Oh believe me, we're not alone. I'm not super involved with fandom all that much anymore either, but the occasional journal I follow would mention it.

Yeah, from Amy's POV, she only really knew about Melody's existence for a couple of days or so, Rory only a few hours. They were probably more in shock than anything else. But I thought a good amount of time had passed between episodes when Amy and Rory were at home between the break, just as it was between Christmas and S6.

The one with the creepy doll people, I think, was pushed back to the latter half of the season and it really shows.

All this being said, I kind of love Amy and River together. And I wish she and Rory had a few more moments together too like in the S6 opener.

HAI THIS IS BETTER THAN TAKING A SHOWER AND GOING TO BED. WHICH I SHOULD DO. BECAUSE I'M YAWNING RIGHT NOW AND CAN'T SEE WHAT I'M WRITING.

ALL THESE THINGS, DUDE. ALL THESE THINGS.

THIS IS STRAIGHT OUT OF INDIANA JONES AND I’M LOVING IT. THE SKULLS. OH THE SKULLS. AND NOW THEY ARE SOMEHOW EATING HIM.

YOU STOLE MY THOUGHTS. IT WAS AWESOMENESS.

I adore this season, but s5 was, for me, this perfect shiny jewel thing, and it doesn't quite reach that, mostly cause the River storyline wasn't exactly the most well thought out thing ever. What's letting me handwave the stuff I'm a bit hrrm about is I love how River's identity was revealed and I love how it ended (I can forgive a lot for an ending I'm happy with esp) with family Pond in the garden.

Yes, this! I'm generally handwave-y at a lot of things concerning this show, both in RTD-era as well as Moffat's, but honestly, I prefer it when things end on an upbeat note, you know? There are still unanswered questions (HUR) and dangling storylines, but the last thing we saw of the Pond family is them dancing. And that's okay with me.
