Meta: A DC Tarot?

Sep 05, 2008 23:25

Reading Trinity--even though I'm a couple of weeks behind now--has gotten me thinking about the Tarot and who I would match with the cards of the Major Arcana. So I've gone through and listed the basic meanings of each card, with my thoughts on who goes with each one. Some seemed easy to me, others almost impossible! And some characters that I ( Read more... )

This is really cool! my I suggest Martha Kent as the Empress? Maternal and Domestic is perfect for her.

I can't believe I didn't think of her! *facepalm* She really is perfect for it...thank goodness, I was getting worried DC had no one fit for the role...

Hmm. Intriguing idea.

The Fool: Impulse!

High Priestess: Hmm. Oracle, maybe? I like Rene as Question.

The Empress: The obvious one, Empress--Antia Fite, who is, of all things, raising her parents. Maybe Ma Kent, or Sue Dibny.

The Lovers: I gotta say, my first thought was Green Arrow and Black Canary.

The Hermit: J’onn is perfect!

The Wheel of Fortune: A Lazarus Pit? A Lantern Ring?

The Hanged Man: Um. Ted Kord. Sorry!

Death: Oracle suits!

Tempereance: It’s hard to cast a superhero as Temperence! I’d go with Alan Scott.

The Tower: Ted also fits this! Maybe better than Hanged Man, I’m not sure.

I'm so torn between Impulse and Robin for the Fool. Impulse is so perfect, and yet I find myself with no Dick Grayson in the deck at all in the end...hmmm...

D'oh about Dinah and Ollie! That's perfect! I'm so embarrassed I didn't even think of them...*sighs* batfan_sarah cast the toonverse Hawkgirl and GL, which also works really well.

The Lazarus Pit as the Wheel of Fortune is inspired! And yeah, Ted would make another good version of the Hanged Man, suspended between life and death...*sighs*

Oooh! How cool! Love your choices, and I'm enjoying reading everyone's take on them, too.

I'm sure I'll regret saying this later, but this totally makes me want to start making images for a deck of cards...

I know...if I were an artist, or even if I had decent Photoshop skills...! Though I found out yesterday batfan_sarah already has a pretty impressive DC Major Arcana together...I'll have to put up a link to it soon, it's great!

If you have Diana as the Star and Clark as the Sun, then you have to have Bruce for the Moon. It's required. ("Losing control of one's daily life. The unconscious mind.")

Have you read Grant M.'s Arkham Assylum? He's big on Tarot cards in there, and the moon card is his symbol for Batman's journey.

Two-Face's coin is inspired! But I'm afraid you can't have Martha Kent for Empress if you're going to use Lex for Emperor. The implications would be horrifying.

I hate to have Bruce be a symbol of superstition! But then, Batman (not Bruce per se) is indeed a symbol of our irrational fears, so it does work (can I cheat by having Bruce as the Magician and Batman as the Moon? Surely he's complex enough for two cards!)

I really should read Arkham Asylum--it sounds spooky and cool, disturbing and deep like so much of his stuff.

But I'm afraid you can't have Martha Kent for Empress if you're going to use Lex for Emperor. The implications would be horrifying.

*SHUDDER* Somehow Hippolyta/Lex is not as disturbing. If only I could cast Jonathan as the Emperor, but it just doesn't work...

Yeah, I'd totally ship Hippolyta/Lex if it were well written.

I could actually rather see it--two people who know a great deal about power and leadership. I'm imagining a sort of "Lion in Winter" vibe between the two of them...

This is so cool! I really know next to nothing about the Tarot, although I'd like to learn how to read them someday. The DC marketing department would be really lame if they missed the opportunity to manufacture a DCU deck to tie in with Trinity.

All of your choices are inspired (Roy as Judgment! Yes!), as are many of the suggestions in the comments. I have only one: The description of The Tower immediately made me think of one of the many Crises. How about the giant tower-thing Alexander Luthor built and strapped various characters into in Infinite Crisis? Unless that's what you meant by Luthor Towers.

I hope your idea to get these commissioned pans out! I would, like, get them printed on real cards or something : )

That's totally true! *addresses DC* Oi! Don't miss your chance!

I keep meaning to write a story with a chapter per each of the Major Arcana--this might inspire me sometime. :)

Oh, good choice on the Tower as well! Dang, there are so many good options! yay for rich and complicated universes...
