A Few Things...

Sep 11, 2008 21:43

I leave tomorrow morning early early early (the bus leaves at 6:30) to get a bus to L.A., a plane to Tokyo, then another plane to Nagoya.  A full day of travel!  But it will be good to be home again, although I've had a wonderful time here in San Diego.

Random things making me happy:

--I started reading Jim Butcher's "The Alera Codex" and am loving ( Read more... )

Obviously I must get my paws on "The Dresden Files" as well! He has a wonderful, transparent writing style that never gets in the way and carries one along wonderfully, and his characters! I adore anyone who can make me like the bad guys as well as the good guys. :)

Wow, Vampire Knight sounds like a much better version of the awful TV show Vampire High. And it looks pretty!

Vampire Knight is pretty darn awesome so far. Loads of angst and cuteness and repressed sexual tension masquerading as bloodlust, yay! Just what I was craving right now...

Well, I made it as far as the Los Angeles airport! Yay for wireless, even a very flakey connection. :)

I'm very hooked on the Butcher now! It's been a while since I've been so eager to find out more about a world--in fact, I'm really torn between answering comments and reading more, which is definitely unusual! But I tell myself I have an eight-hour flight to read with no Internet access, so better to get caught up there first...

I LOVE the Codex Alera! I'm so glad you're enjoying it, the next book (book 5) comes out at the end of November, I believe.

The second book isn't my favorite, but a lot of things happen in it that are important to later books.

The third book is *so* good and answers most of the questions about Fade and Isana. I think you'll like how their story ends up, I know I loved it.

The fourth book is my favorite so far and I'm just rereading them all to refresh myself on the previous books so I can fully enjoy the fifth book.

Oooh, I didn't even realize it wasn't finished yet! I'm happy. :) I very much get the impression this is one of those books where events turn out to be much more complicated and deeper than they appear at first, and I always really love that. I enjoy getting to have all sorts of complicated conspiracy theories that are probably totally wrong. :)

No, you're exactly right...

There are tons of things going on behind the scenes and mysteries get deeper and questions are answered, but then more pop up.

It's an awesome series of books and they stand up well to mulitple rereadings, so I suggest you just keep on going.

*grins*

You won't regret it, the fourth book if by far the best and left Tavi and everyone in very interesting places so I can't wait to find out what happens next.

I'm almost done the second book right now--I've been enjoying it a lot, but I can see what you mean about it feeling kind of...transitional. Like it's done establishing the characters but it's taking a little while to get them in just the right place. Still very good, though--and I believe my theories about Fade, Isara, and Tavi are correct! *dances happily*

Ooh! Vampire Knight is sooooooooo good! One of my friends got me addicted to it -- I haven't read the manga (yet) but I've seen the first season of the anime, and I can't tell you how badly I'm waiting for the next one. It's just so awesome. (and oh, ya, this totally gave me AU ideas... totally)
