DCU Online to aim for female players

Oct 07, 2008 23:36

MTV Multiplayer: Have you done anything with “The Agency” and “DC Universe Online” to try to bring more women into those games as well?

Sony Online President:: We are going out of our way in “DC” because we saw that women were really the largest part of the audience for “The Dark Knight” [movie]. In fact, I heard a stat that said it might’ve been ( Read more... )

Oh, hilarious.

I'm surprised (and pleased) that women were so much of The Dark Knight's audience. It's all Heath Ledger, baby, that's the only thing I noticed about that movie.

I was surprised as well! I suppose it being Ledger's last performance...no way to cast him in the online game, so they might have to give up on that angle. :/

Lol, that would be a sight to see.

If Mary-Sue is taken try one of her international cousins Maria-Sue, Marie-Sue or her loser brother Gary-Stu.

The Japanese version would be Mari-Su! That might just work... :)

LOL! DCU dating game. A part of me would enjoy it more if it was a Silver Age Superman dating game.

And absolutely agree with logia who say ditch the 'female audience' talk and just make a good game. I have tried the DCUO game as well as sat through the SDCC panel hosted by Jim Lee, and I'm absolutely the demographic the Sony Pres speaks of: casual female gamer. Unfortunately, I was one of a handful of women at the panel. The rest were MMORPG geeks.

Top of my head, I remember we spent quite some time drooling over the character designs and discussing what players can potentially do, like teamup with members of the Batclan in Gotham until you get to head out with El Jefe. Gameplay is still sketchy, and what they have currently isn't impressive -- think Street Fighter. Pfft. I was tired of getting my behind handed to me by Luthor repeatedly anyway ( ... )

Talking about focusing on women as a demographic sounds condescending at best, as if they could possibly figure out what "female gamers" want as a block. No one would ever talk about "appealing to male gamers," they talk about appealing to people who want intuitive gameplay, or crafting options, or flexible storylines. I wonder when we're ever going to get past this silly "What do women want?" thing...

Not that I wouldn't mind me some pretty golden boots, lol. ;D

LOL, Jen! Awesome.

After the game comes out I'm *so* going to try to figure out if I can get S and B to make out. This is the DCUO game I really want to see ;)

I'm imagining a crowd of fangirls deliberately going on a mission that has Superman and Batman in it just to try and maneuver them into potentially compromising closeness... ;)

Some people will be after uber loot, I shall be be pursuing the Slasher's Holy Grail. :)

LOL!
It that's the "female friendly" mission, I hope it applies to other pairings...*start daydreaming*

Oh, in my version of the DCUO there would be options for every possible pairing. :) Man, that would be a LOT of extra coding, wouldn't it? Putting...say...Barry Allen and Jason Todd together might be a bit difficult though...
