A post about posting

I'm starting to really like this livejournal thing. I think that means I like to write, which makes total sense because I love to talk (when the subject is good) and writing is just another form of talking... Right? Write! [insert a 'she's so clever' chuckle here]
I mean, I've even caught myself thinking as I'm falling asleep... 'Man, I hope I have ( Read more... )

Well I support the LJ cause. I've been on here for 8 years now, with only a break of about a year in that time span. It's become just part of who I am and what I do in my daily life.
I don't post just for myself. If there was no one on here reading my posts I doubt I would keep it up. I post to let people know what's up in my life and I like reading about what's up in their lives.
Plus, I like the LJ mentality. We can be completely serious when necessary but we know it's not at all required and often not desired. But when it comes down to the bare bones of what we do here, it's about substance. Even if that substance is brutal star wars rape fan fiction or a list of our favorite ted danson movies or why we are scared or excited about the direction our life is going - it's all intentional and significant. There is thought and purpose put into it.

I like that it's the most struggling and hardscrabble of the social networks. It had its time in the sun, back when it was pretty much the only game in town, 8 or 9 years ago. But now it's like the "collector's format" social network. You've got the gonzo Facebook, Myspace is still useful for musical concerns, and then there's LinkedIn, which is for psychos.

Then over here you got your LJ, which is for serious, no-nonsense Internet denizens. We don't just get on the Wild Wild Web to see what sandwiches our buddies are eating. We want to know who they had grim sex dreams about and which co-workers they'd like to shiv. Things you can't discuss on Facebook.
