Yup, now you know! So keep writing (by which I mean not only your fiction, but also your essays on writing; even though I have no skill at writing, and don't particularly feel the need to become any better, it's still a lot of fun listening to people whose work you enjoy the results of, discussing how they got there).
Never underestimate the power of fandom. We can be brutal when we need to be. >:D
Most of those reviewers? There's negative criticism, which has its time and place, but a lot of them? The way they sounded, a few times I had to wonder "Which books, exactly, have they been reading?" People are free to not like your books, but likewise, some people are just morons. The latter party are not worth listening to.
As long as I'm here, allow me to very quickly profess my undying love for your works. *bows*
See, your stance of taking reassonable criticism well is one of the main reasons why I read your blog.
A few years ago, back when Fred was still running an email list and I still had time to read it all, I posted some criticism. I'd just finished Summer Knight (this would be when it first came out) and I had issues with the ending. I was expecting a big finale with the Wizard's Council. I got to the end and was not sure if their beef with Harry was resolved.
I posted my comments on the mailing list, and got yelled at by a number of fans who were horrified that I'd dare criticise your work in any way (since I love Fey, that particular book is actually one of my favorites). You responded that it was OK to post criticism, and were very polite about the whole thing.
That stuck with me. There are any number of authors out there who just won't listen to fans at all *cough*LKH*cough* and I was very impressed by your coolness.
That's the reason for the malicious reviews - that they CAN be anonymous and spiteful. Bleah on them.
As for the huge number of LJ fans on this list - well I guess we've all been waiting for you to strike up a conversation or maybe ask us what's our favorite book/character, etc :)
2) Holy CRAP there are a lot of people reading this blog thing. I had no idea. And it's been six MONTHS since I've posted any writing craft stuff. I didn't really realize how many people were interested.
Hahahahaah, we LOVE you! And I meant to post on the other post but then I forgot and by that point you had like three pages of people telling you how awesome you are so I figured another might just be overkill. Or is that just enough kill? Hmmm. Anyway, I would however like to point out that I'm a proud owner of all of the Dresden Files and the Codex Alera and I pimp your books any chance I get. And I recently let a friend of mine borrow the Dresden Files, she finished all of the books in like two days (seriously) and is now in love with Harry, more or less. (Her favorite bit is the bit with Sue rampaging through Chicago)
And I'll also point out that this all leads back to highlander_ii who told me about you and nagged me till I picked up Storm Front. :D
