As one of your converts...er, I mean readers, I appreciate it when you take the time to post anything on LJ. It's wonderful to be able to get an unstructured dose of an author I like.
And just so you know, a friend of mine from Kansas City got me hooked on your books and I have been hooking my friends whenever I can. Please keep writing as many of us are impatiently waiting for your next book. *grin*
I read all your writing stuff and really find it useful and really enjoy it.
I can't comment on the criticism[1] except to say that I always presume mean spiritedness is done out of bitterness[2]and reflects badly on the critic, much more than it does the author[4].

[1] Things you shouldn't admit no 1 - I've never read your books. I found you as some of the people who read my books kept telling me how much they reminded them of what you do (hopefully, since it's highly unlikely you've read what I do, that's a compliment to both of us). This has put the fear of God into me about reading what you do in case I end up 'borrowing'. And as you're much further up the author tree than me that would be a very bad thing for me to do indeed. [2] Rightly or wrongly, it makes me feel better anyway. [3] More footnotes than content. That's quite an accurate discription of my life actually.
I'd like to know what the virtue was of writing such reviews? One guy spent three paragraphs giving us a history lesson and an injection (or overdose) of patriotic fervor. Ye gads, it's one thing to correct a mistake, but please, please, please, before you introduce your Oscar-winning speech, give us all a moment to buy some ipecac!
Bright side time. Happy New Year, Jim and all the blessings for a successful 2007 (TV show & books) :)
I happened on your journal through a link from one of my friends list, shortly after three seperate friends recommended your books to me in reply to one post. If you're interested, it's here (complete with all three recommendations). The first friend to suggest your books was a librarian, a very well-read individual, so I take her recommendations very seriously
