What you say in the third paragraph reminds me of the Voltaire quote, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Beautiful post, but a bit late and a lot naive. The reality is, as long as you do not get in the way of those who control the majority of the resources, including the media, you can keep your illusion of freedom. As soon as you step out of the party line, you are targeted. If you are influential and have the love of the people when you set a bad example for maintaining the corporate system's lifestyle, you die. Plain and simple. True power is economic wealth, control of resources, control of the media, control of education, etc. etc. It is not the pen or the sword. Power in today's society is the insidious and invisible social engineering by those who hold the wealth and control that dumbs down our education system to the point of making us stupid enough to believe these pretty platitudes

This is an amazing post. Freedom is something many of us take too often for granted. Thank you for pointing out that those of us who enjoy it have a responsibility to defend it.
