First off: Right on, fuck war. Secondly, I hate to say it, but I think your anti-Israel comments are likely a product of your living in the south. They're vaguely anti-semitic and I think it's difficult to have a full understanding of the state, why it's there, and why we fund it when you live in a place where Jews are a foreign species. (Corollary: Israel is Jewish, not Christian. Embarrassing mistake. And it's not a terrorist country.) Third, I agree, religion has no place in this war (though it's certainly what began it), while protesting has an immensely important place in it. Someone needs to be able to tell the emperor that he has no clothes. Unfortunately, Dubya seems to have forgotten that he is a (supposedly) elected representative, not the King of America.
Hi. It's the Jewish kid who can't park you met in North Carolina. Nice post. I agree, Bush is a damn idiot for sure. I don't agree with much he does at all.
On Israel, though, I think the foreign aid is necessary, and it isn't because they are a Jewish country (though that plays a role, however small.) Also, though we give Israel 2 billion dollars, we give Egypt, an Arab state that is hardly the best place to live on Earth (repeated human rights violations, not really a free democracy, etc.) 2.8 billion. We give Indonesia, site of hundreds of anti-American riots and even a terrorist nightclub bombing hundreds of millions. It seems stupid to give money away to other countries when people are starving here, but it is necessary. (Also, foreign aid is like .5% of the budget every year. Something like 5 to 7 billion dollars. The military is 322 billion and growing to 400 next year, so that's a better target for cuts, I think.)
Oi Ron, I know how you feel, good to see someone venting it finally..... My Father called Michael Moore "a fucking commie" for protesting the war, I don't have the heart to tell him what I do on my days off..... Peace brother, don't lose the faith.... Rich
