Tomorrow I leave this blissful place for the miserable swamps of southern CT, so to ease the transition I'm going to spend one more night torturing myself with this dreck. Join me in bringing my vacation to a whimpering end.

Hereby proving that I am in fact a masochist.
Why am I returning to this book twice in the same day? Pure masochism, I think, or a desire to get to the end of it. At this point I'll settle for getting out of Blue's extended flashback sequence and into some actual plot. No such fucking luck.

First, a note: If one sets one's phone notification ringtone to the Final Fantasy victory theme, and one keeps it by the bed, and occasionally has company in said bed, one must be prepared for the inevitable (in)opportune sounding of said ringtone.

Connecticon: Wrap
So Connecticon was good times. Got to see Yuko from Johnny Wander and buy some stuff from her, got a ton of awesome swag, including all four planechase decks at a beautiful 25% discount. Participated in an MTG 2011 pre-release sealed tournament. Got my ass handed to me (got good cards but no real cohesive deck) but had a great time doing it. ( Read more... ) -

Chapter 1 consists of a brief Sue Van Meer family portrait. Daddy Van Meer is Gary Stu himself, an immigrant with nothing who became a successful professor, and married the love of his life. Untempered national pride is an unusual sensation for me, but goddamn if the World Cup doesn't bring it out. That was easily the most epic game of any sport I've seen since, oh, about 2004.
