serenity takes place some time after the last episode of the series and within a year of the first episode. i'm a huge firefly fand and own the series myself.

actually, i take it back. according to a throw-away line by kaylee in the movie, serenity takes place right at a year after the first episode of firefly.

Firefly is definitely up there in my list of favorite TV series. But, sorry, there are currently no plans for a sequel to Serenity, so say Joss Whedon himself. Although there are certainly alot of rumors flying around.
