Nice try. The simple truth is that George W. Bush was right, and the guy who ran on opposing his policies has now done the right thing by upholding them.
Which policies would those be? The one where he said that he didn't really care about catching Bin Laden? The one where he defended torture, when the intelligence that led us to Bin Laden came from people we didn't torture? The one where instead of concentrating on afghanistan and pakistan, we went into Iraq instead?
Follow the link to Jim Geraghty's article. In particular, harsh interrogation techniques used on two of the Al-Qaeda members were the first link in the chain that led to bin Laden.
Yes, Bush's policies helped immensely. The only reason the Left isn't howling about them is that they'd be tearing down the Chosen One's one real success.
To hear the CIA tell it, the reason their intel from KSM etc was valuable was because that they could tell it was a lie - in short, they had, apparently, turned Khalid Sheik Muhammad into a reliable liar.
I thought the point of these "harsh interrogation techniques" was to get the truth out of people.
As for the bases in bagram etc: we have "withdrawn" from iraq, on a "liberal" timetable, but still have bases there. what would prevent us from having same in afghanistan? it's clearly a valuable territory to have bases in.
And as for wiretapping: they're foreign nationals. I haven't heard any complaints about that.

Back in Russia, failed leaders were pointed towards the nearest woods, and given a pistol with one round in it. Too bad this didn't apply here.
Good thing we have a successful leader now.
