sadly it's over

Well folks, it's over. I can't even believe it myself. My entire year in Germany has come to an end and before I know it I'll be on US Soil again. I have mixed feelings about it all, but think and hope that things will get back to "normal." I'm almost certain they will. At least when I was back home in May things seemed pretty okay and I'm not too ( Read more... )

*nods*, I understand...here's some advice! _laflemme August 3 2005, 00:19:52 UTC
i know exactly how you feel! I felt the same way coming back from Avignon. I hope you adjust back better than I did, because I didn't!! I am making arrangements now to go back and do grad school there because I just cannot readjust to American life.

A few words of advice that keep me sane:
1. Surround yourself with good friends when you get home, otherwise you'll never make it.
2. Don't dwell on the past. Realize that you've changed and that your friends have lived an entire year w/o you there, and probably changed as well. Expect them to have changed.
3. Keep in touch w/ your friends over there because they'll always be a part of you.

good luck w/ re-entry shock!

I came home two weeks ago from my year in Germany and it was so much more difficult than i thought with coming back. But I've been doing good, speaking english has been so weird and hard and crazy, but seeing everyone again is so nice. Good luck, i definitely know how you're going to be feeling when you get home. First shocks for me and my exchange student friends were the light switches and door knobs and how much water is in the toilets! and free tap water! and no pfand! and not having 10 crazy recycling trash cans. but still, oh man, i love germany, i really miss it and my friends so much. mach's gut, <3 have a safe flight home!!!
