Today I reflected upon the fact that I wish to be able to preserve everything, and to experience change in a controlled manner and at a rate of my own choosing. It's the first official day of fall; the sun is grinding down upon the land, it's 100F, cicadas are singing [/screaming], and there's a turkey vulture hanging out in this Arby's parking lot and giving me a sidelong look.

128 Scout - Annual(?) Update: 2018 Followup
It's been another wild ride of a year.
Flooding, again.My parents had nearly finished the remodeling on their house after the 2016 flood when Hurricane Harvey blew through and dumped unprecedented amounts of water on Houston. From our exerience in 2016, we knew that this was not a case of 'if' but 'when, and how bad' it would flood down here. ( Read more... ) -

I guess I should update this thing? Well, last year was a doozie.
Flooding.
Shortly after my last entry, we experienced substantial flooding in the region. I was fortunate that my house did not flood, but my parents had about 24" of water in their house. They came over to my house (and brought the cars) and stayed in my living room for about a month ( Read more... ) -

We've been getting a lot of rain lately, and since our drainage ditch is screwed up it means that I've had a lot of water in the yard. There's also been so much rain in Houston and northern Brazoria county that the rivers and bayous are overflowing, and it's slowly working its way down to our part of the county. Not much to report, really. 2016 is turning out to be an exhausting year (life in general, not just the homestead) thus far and mostly the work that I've been doing related to the house is just clearing out more brush/vines and trying to keep the lawn under control.
