Ways in which I have not assimilated:

• The way I say "about" and "process" still makes Americans laugh.
• "Check" still looks wrong to me. There's a q in there.
• I still use expressions which baffle Americans (I had to explain"can't be arsed" to Shay this week).
• I still make jokes based on Canadian Heritage Moments ("oh, doctor, I smell burnt toast!")

I don't understand why people think the Republican party is good with money. Actually, there's a lot I don't understand about American attitudes toward their political parties.

For what it's worth, I grew up here and the process here is cumbersome and illogical.

You see, I would be freaked out by a "no concealed carry beyond this door sign," and I don't think I'll see the appeal of American Idol if I live to be a thousand years old. But I could probably tell the difference between taquitos and chimichangas when I was in preschool.

Those signs are on every public building, practically, in Tennessee. I don't really even see them anymore.

Fifteen years in the northeast and I still insist on calling them "freeways," which is not local vernacular, nor even true in many cases (toll roads). But it's fun watching Leit assimilate since coming here from Atlanta. Let's just say his criteria for what constitutes a good parking place in Manhattan are broadening daily.
