That is exactly what my family is experiencing... I do not doubt for a second that they are the most skilled doctors, but they lack the ability to work with the families of their patients.

I've heard this about some of the local hospitals, if not experienced it. You know that they are busy and that they mean well, but it does feel like they're ignoring you and not really giving care so much as maintenance. And that really does suck.

I'm sorry, sweetie. I think you are right to be angry and frustrated.

Thank you. He's doing better now, fortunately.

::hugs:: Doctors suck. And they're not real people so it's okay to punch them.

This is when you become very calm, cool and polite and start dropping questions that direct you towards the people who can penalize doctors and the hospital monetarily.

One of the things that this hospital does is care-by-team; so that might explain the myriad of doctors coming in to assess your uncle. The doctors here have both inpatients on the floor and outpatients in the clinic, who also don't want to wait an hour for a 15 minute appointment. You can't win sometimes.

That being said, nothing should excuse the lack of communication when a physician is paged by a nurse on the floor. The doctor doesn't have to rush right to the bedside, but at least a call back saying "I can be there at 4 pm rounds" is better than just sitting around waiting and fuming.

I continually remind the people I work with that, while we do this stuff every day, and it's routine, to the person in the bed and the family around them, it's the worst day of their life, and we need to remember that.

Call me at work if you're here today, okay?

I completely understand that my family is not the only people the doctors are treating (I mean, I wish that people never got sick, but that is not a reality, right?). That being said, I do think it is just wrong to have one doctor say one thing, the next doctor (who says he does not know why the other doctor said that) tells us something completely different. Then a third doctor has said something else entirely ( ... )

Also, I have to work at IB tonight, so I won't be going to the hospital until tomorrow.
