Woo! So I replaced the wiring, and after remembering to actually reconnect the AFM, the car fired right up and works better than before it broke. I think the connection was dying for quite a while and this was just what it needed.

There is a toasted wire between the positive battery terminal and the fusible link (the one that controls all the electronics in the car...duh, no wonder it doesn't work).
