Looking on the bright side - because I am a glass full kind of person - it's good that it is a miserable day day because if the sun was shining it would be sad not to be able to drink coffee and chill.

So, after this building is done, will you still be able to sit on your kitchen roof and drink coffee or will you fall off the new roof?

no no more sitting on the balcony, we didn't place the walls back as that was another 2000!!! euro extra for the few sunny days in Holland, we have a lovely garden where we can sit so it is not the end of our outside life..LOL

That is a shame. There is something special about that first weak sun of spring that heralds the promise of better days to come.

Can you not use other materials to create a screen? Lots of people here use wooden movable screens and even place strips of decking over the stone as a base. I am sure that would be cheaper. My friends have that on their roof garden. It can all be cleared away yet offers a lovely place on a summer's morning.

Of course, with your grandchild your will have to be totally child proof so I can see problems in my solution. Oh dear...

It almost looks like it has kitty paw prints in the cement.

I would see why you would hate to not be able to use it as it is always nice to have somewhere to sit outside and relax.
