I've been doing a crap job at keeping up with new music this year. I went through the new bands I've heard this year, but this list strikes me as fantastically incomplete (and short!). What 2010 releases are getting heavy rotation on your iPod/CD player/record player/tape deck? I'm missing more than I'm hitting lately, so I could use a little help.

if you like mayer hawthorne (bit that i heard wasnt hitting me) you should check out raphael saadiq's album from 2008 (which does hit me): "the way i see it" pretty great. as well as sharon jones and the dap-kings, bringing motown soul back to the people. i also have a song from a group called kings go forth which is in the same vein of motown throwback ( ... )

So Anis has covered a lot of the jams and I'm away from my computer as I type this so I can't give you a complete rundown but check out Girls as well and Yeasayer's Odd Blood is excellent. Also Real Estate is pretty damn good. The Dirty Projectors take a minute but Bitte Orca is hella catchy and was released in 2009 so you probably are already all up on's them. Oh, and the XX is totally worth the hype, Drake isn't quite worth it but he's not bad.

Also I really like Woods and I'm not even sure why - maybe you can figure it out. Or hate them. I have a hard time hating music... like Free Energy is recognizably bad and yet I still groove out every time "Bang Pop" hits the radio.
