Now that the main news is out of the way, here's a couple of links for you. Don't you feel special? ^_^

Now either I'm the victim of a very good marketing campaign or I'm more gullible than I thought, but either way these Genpets disturb me. A lot. The FAQ says they're real flash and blood. I wouldn;t say I'm the most sensitive person ever, but ( Read more... )

I don't think those GenPets are real, simply because of the tailored emotions. We don't know enough to do that.

Also, I think it was part of something like Perplexcity...

I'm not sure whether I want one because it looks really cool, or if I want to destroy them all coz the concept is just freaky.

Thank god they're not real.

Hello my darling twin how's things going with you? Just added you as a mate so I can check up on you without resorting to msn :P. Hope you've recovered from the sugar shock of the visit. *huggles*

Wouldn't like to say how feasible actually making them is. Partly because the rest of you don't know, partly because most of the tech for that sorta thing would be classified.

Making them *appear* lifelike is easier in some ways. Colour coding is a cute touch though. Low maintanence suggests either they have a wonderfully effective digestive system and several additional metabolic routes for energy harvesting, or display lower activity levels than typically associated with traditional pets. That said, cats are often seen sleeping.

Some of the genpet pics looks rather... well to be blunt it looked like it had been poked with pipes, the pipes removed, and it left to rot for a while before they found the plastic packet for it.

Although I admit to being most horrified by the 1 and 3 year lifespan. How cruel to give life such short limits. What child will grow up as sane as the rest of you if its loved and cherished pet died on a regular basis.

Humanity lives in a throwaway world, even throwing away life.
