Since I realized what I was going to write was just observation without insight, instead I will seek advice.
I think I will read The Little Prince next, but as I do not read French, which translation should I get? Absent a recommendation I will probably get the first version that my eyes or fingers settle upon. -

Today, as I was sitting down to tie my shoes and my magnetic sunglasses fell out of my shirt pocket as usual, I noticed that my fire-proof front door was ferromagnetic. It always astounded me how the hard-boiled protagonist in 30's detective fiction would drink gin as a stimulant. The example that stands out to me is Hammett's Red Harvest. Obviously we now know that alcohol is a CNS depressant. I would guess that, in the era of Prohibition, lack of personal experience with alcohol coupled with its association ( Read more... ) -

I find it hard to immerse myself in a novel when the protagonist is named Robert Jordan, regardless of the novel antedating the late author. -
