so this weekend i made a life changing decision. for the time being (not sure how long) im only gunna listen to songs from 1975 and under... though i might bend the rules every now and then for some stuff in the late 70s. i started as just the 1960s, but then i thought id be depriving myself of some great music in the 1970s, so i extended and ( Read more... )

easier too, because easlier is not a word.

im not saying itd be hard, im just saying it doesnt work as well (for me at least). i haven't read enough books to warrant it and generally don't like newer books anyway... most the books ive read and want to read are books before, actually probably way before, 1975. so its kinda pointless.

Books would be easier for many reasons. Mostly because there are so many great books written before 1975. You could only those books for the rest of your life and still have a lot of great literature left to read.

You listen to music all the time though, and unless you are a fan of another genre, like classical or bluegrass or something it would be really hard. Because rock and all of the other cool genres came after the 50s/60s.

Now if you really want to challenge yourself, you would resolve to read only magaizines and newspapers from pre-1975. Or only eat/use products that existed before 1975.

The Doors. The Velvet Underground.

Very innovative and creative bands.

what are you talking about they weren't that great.

The Doors--don't listen to their popular, "Light My Fire" bullshit... check out their lesser known songs like The Wasp or even somewhat known like, "People Are Strange". Also you are visual, the imagery in "Moonlight Drive" is pure poetry. And the use of keyboards as a substitute for bass was pretty novel at the time.

The Velvet Underground lead the way for experimental and punk rock.

What exactly are you listening too? I was thinking you would get the basics down.

WTF, where are you in Manhattan? I work on 6th & 47th.
Starting next month I'll be transfer in Hoboken to NY, so perhaps I'll see you. That would be awesome.

ps, when you decided to go on your pre-1975 movie fast, let me know when you find some good stuff.

And you really can't go wrong with rock 'n roll from the late 50s/early 60s. I love Buddy Holly.

I just realized I'm actually on forty-eighth. One day I'll remember my address. Anywho, I'm at Simon & Schuster. We could definitely catch dinner someday, or something.
