A web site hosted a re-cut contest to see what people could produce if they took a movie, set it in another genre, and edited a new trailer for it using clips from the movie. Contestants made The Shining into a feel-good family flick, West Side Story into a zombie movie, and Revenge of the Sith into a gay romance ( Read more... )

wow. I had seen the Shining one before, and it cracked me up. I didn't realize there was an entire contest though. The West Side Story one worked well, and it showed how one can take basically any footage and be creative with it. Cool.

I think the only parts that constituted cheating were the digital effects of the glowing eyes and such (unless that was in the original and I don't remember it). The rest of it was just fast editing and sound effects, which are legitimate editing for trailers.

I will agree that there could have been more done with the actual footage. However, I thought it was one of the more creative trailers. I think it's because I liked 28 Days Later so much, though. Titanic seemed a little easy, because all of the horror-suspense was put in the movie already, they just edited out the love crap.
