Really conflicted right now about my trip to Japan. My flight is supposed to leave on March 25th. Things are so incredibly sensitive there at the moment. I worry that I may cause more harm than good by going there and consuming the already diminishing resources. I know I am only one person and I am not going to make or break it, but I still feel I' ( Read more... )

1 - A lot of countries are requesting their people evacuate from Japan.
2 - as of when I went to bed last night, Kanto region had radiation warnings,
3 - Tokyo is STILL expecting a big quake.
4 - Southern Japan isn't really affected yet, mostly anything south of say, Nagoya. Osaka is fine. A lot of my friends are going there from Tokyo.

Things are still getting worse. Tsunami warnings are in effect on and off, and everyone is so far taking it a day at a time as far as Tokyo and Northern Japan go.

All of my information comes from people currently IN Japan who are listening to the government and Japanese media, which is more likely to UNDERSTATE than Exaggerate the situation in order to avoid panic. It's how Japan works.

Which parts of Kanto? I've been in contact with my friends in Ashikaga, Tochigi, where I was supposed to be heading. No panic on their end last I talked to them, but it has been a day.

They were advising people in Tokyo to stay inside. There's no panic about it.

Honestly, Josh, I wouldn't go. People are having a hard time getting OUT of Japan right now, and that's assuming the US gov't will LET you go in the first place. I know they put out a big warning against travel to Japan right now.

I really really would advise staying home until things have settled down.
