Chapter 2
As Jared awoke he felt completely disorientated, it was still fairly dark outside but his body was telling him he’d over slept. Cursing the eight hours time difference Jared heaved himself out of bed and checked the time on his cell, the sun would be up soon. Sighing he changed into his swimming trunks, grabbed his towel and headed down to the pool. In England Jared had swum a hundred lengths each morning in his bosses pool and didn’t plan on stopping just because he had a new boss. He wasn’t particularly bothered about his appearance but he enjoyed the swim and didn’t want to turn into an over weight desk junkie like so many PA’s did in the end.
Hauling himself out of the pool Jared wrapped a towel around himself and watched as the sun continued to rise,
“Do you want any breakfast?” Maggie asked, making Jared jump “Sorry didn’t mean to scare you.”
“It’s ok; I could murder some pancakes, they're the one thing I missed when I was in England.” Jared smiled hopefully.
“Coming right up.” Maggie returned his smile and headed back towards the kitchen. Stretching Jared headed for his room to shower and dress.
“Those pancakes smell good.” Jared commented strolling into the kitchen.
“Maple syrups on the breakfast bar, coffee is in the pot and if you want ice cream top shelf of the freezer.”
“Just syrup’s good thanks. You want a coffee?”
“No thanks.” Maggie placed the thick stake of pancakes on the counter. Jared waited for her to join him.
“You not having any?”
“Nope, I ate before I left home.”
“Don’t you live here?”
“Oh god no! There’s only you and Mr Ackles here. I live with my husband, Jeff, and our two kids on the other side of LA.”
“That must be difficult if you’re here all day.”
“It’s not so bad. Mr Ackles lets me have time off if I need it and the commute is only an hour or so. Could be a lot worse.”
“Yeah I’m a good boss really, Maggie what have I told you about calling me Mr Ackles?” came a voice from the doorway. Jared turned and felt his eyes widen as his eyes caught a glimpse of his boss, perfectly chiseled features, smooth tanned skin, a chest that looked like it belonged to a super model and the most dazzling green eyes. “I take it you’re Jared.”
“Yes sir, I arrived early sorry.” Jared extended his hand. Jensen ignored it.
“Call me Jensen; I hate all the formality crap.” Jensen grabbed a six pack from the fridge and headed back into the corridor “I’ll be in my room, don’t disturb me unless it’s urgent.”
“He must have company.” Maggie sighed.
“I guess I better do some work. Thanks for the pancakes, they rocked.”
Jared flipped open the manual that Lena had left for him and began to read, everything seemed pretty straight forward, nothing too different from his previous job. He logged on to the office email account and sent all the relevant people an introductory email about himself. When he had finally sifted through all the usual emails about interviews and photo shoots, and making a list of the ones Lena had suggested were the best, Jared grabbed a pile of mail from one of the sacks and headed for the kitchen to grab some lunch.
“Lunch will be another twenty minutes.” Maggie informed him as she stood stirring a pot of something that smelt divine.
“No problem I’ll just grab a coffee. What we having?” Jared asked refilling his mug and dropping the mail on the counter.
“Spaghetti bolognaise, Jensen asked for it specifically. I dunno what’s got into that boy lately normally he only wants salad and steak. Ah well gives me something different to cook. How are you finding everything?”
“It’s ok, nothing too difficult. Dunno how I’m gonna get through all the fan mail though, there’s so much of it.”
“Yep Jensen is a very popular man. Most of them are probably a load of crap anyway. So who did you work for before?”
“I’m afraid I can not divulge that information Miss Maggie. Although if you guess correctly you can probably tell from the look on my face.” Jared smirked. Every PA had to sign a confidentiality contract, for Jared it was easy enough, he had no friends left after the mess last time he was in LA and his parents had disowned him years before that.
“Hmmm, I’ll get thinking. So why did you leave and come here?”
“I didn’t the agency pulled me from my job and told me that I was wanted here. I declined and told them I’d look elsewhere but they were rather persuasive and to be fair it’s a chance of a life time it’s just a shame it’s here and not the other side of the world.”
“Didn’t you miss the States?”
“Only the pancakes.” Jared beamed “I left for personal reason and never wanted to come back but I figure as long as I stay here, in this house, I should be ok.”
“Really? What’s out there that’s so bad?” Maggie frowned as she placed a bowl in front of Jared.
“Tom Welling.”
