If the government says you can't short a particular stock, could you still do it by shorting S&P 500 ETFs while buying the other 499 stocks? Obviously you'd have to be big or the transaction costs will eat you. -
watch for falling stocks
It's been a few years since I last purchased any individual stocks, but last time I thought about it I signed up for a bunch of price alerts on interesting companies. They've been going off left and right lately. I no longer remember what most of these companies do.
