Anything for Love
Chapter 1
To say that Connor Queen was excited was an understatement. It’s been three months since
he last saw his Aunt Chloe, and the emails were not enough. He had three months to
with Jason on what to do and he couldn’t wait to get phase 1 into action.
Going back to school on Monday was far from his mind as he practically bounded up the
stairs of Isis.He promised Jason he’ll see him later, but right now, he was just excited
to see her and to tell her about his trip.
He approached her office and was about to knock when he heard her laughter through
the open door.Connor peeked inside and looked in surprise to see her eating pizza
with George Dean.
“No... I don’t believe you!”
“It’s true!” George insisted after he took a bite of his pizza. “I rebelled against my mom.”
“By turning into a detective?” Chloe asked as she looked at George with amusement.
George shrugged. “She wanted me to follow my step-dad into the business. He’s a great guy,
he was more than willing to take me under his wing, but being a businessman was never
something I wanted.
“You are full of surprises, Detective Dean.”
George just grinned and Chloe had to look away for a moment. There was something about
him, the past three months was like a breath of fresh air, and she learnt more about him
each time they were together, and she enjoyed every moment of it. A movement behind
George caught her eye, and she smiled as she saw Connor hovering behind the door.
“Connor! There you are. I missed you!” Chloe greeted the boy as she walked over to
him to give him a hug and a kiss. “How was your trip?”
“Good.” Connor replied apprehensively as he looked at George. “Hi, Detective Dean.”
George smiled as he stood up and walked over to the pair. “It’s good to see you again
Connor. Did you have a good time?”
Connor just nodded his head. He didn’t like this; he didn’t like this at all. He was getting
a funny feeling. It was the same feeling the first time he met Duke. Anna said they were
just friends, and then she left him to get married. He quickly grabbed Chloe’s hands. He
didn’t want to lose her like he lost Anna.
“Do you want to grab some pizza? George and I are just having lunch.”
Just as Chloe said the words, George’s pager beeped and he groaned as he checked it.
“I’ve got to go back to the Station, duty calls.”
Chloe nodded her head. “I’ll see you tomorrow night?”
George just grinned. “You bet. I’ll see you later, Connor.”
Connor and Chloe watched as George left the office. The young boy bit his lip. He didn’t
like this at all.
“So, tell me about your trip?” Chloe smiled, and it made Connor feel a little better.
He tried to smile back as they walked towards the couch, but he still had that funny feeling.

Oliver watched Connor sleep, and he couldn’t help but worry about his son. Usually a visit
with Chloe and Jason would have the younger Queen bouncing off the wall, but tonight, he
was so subdued.
“Dad?”
He looked in surprise as Connor opened one eye.
“I thought you were asleep.”
Connor just shook his head as he opened his other eye and looked at him. “Detective George was with
Aunt Chloe this afternoon.”
Oliver nodded his head as looked at his son who crawled closer to him. “They’re friends, Connor...”
“Like Anna and Duke were?”
“I think so.” Oliver replied as he began to understand Connor’s behaviour. “Is that why
you’ve been quiet?”
Connor nodded his head. “I don’t want to lose Aunt Chloe like I lost Anna.”
“Connor,” Oliver said gently as he brushed his son’s hair away from his face. “You haven’t
lost Anna. You’re always in contact with each other. Didn’t you see her through Skype
last week?”
“It’s not the same.” Connor grumbled. “How long has Aunt Chloe worked with you?”
Warning bells began to sound in Oliver’s ears as he looked at Connor.
“A few years.”
“You’ve always just been friends?” Connor asked. He had to make sure he doesn’t ask too
much questions. He still hasn’t told his dad about the letter, and he didn’t want to get in
trouble for reading something that didn’t belong to him.
Oliver didn’t know how to answer this question. It was hard enough not letting Connor know
he was the Green Arrow, and he didn’t want to lie to his son. Instead, he tried to deflect
his question until he was ready to tell Connor the truth. “Why are you asking?”
“Just curious.” Connor replied. “Bailey just worked with Michael and now they’re together."
“We’re a little different from Michael and Bailey.” Oliver replied with a small smile.
“Why?” Connor asked. “If Bailey and Michael can get together, why can’t you and Aunt Chloe?”
“There have been a lot of things that happened between us.” Oliver replied honestly as Connor
looked away from him. “It’s not that easy to explain, buddy.”
“Don’t you like her?” Connor asked as he tried to look his dad straight in the eye. “I mean like,
like her.”
Oliver didn’t know how to respond to his son’s simple question. He knew the answer enough,
but vocalising them to Connor was a little more difficult. Connor just sighed as he grabbed
his father’s hand.
“I don’t want to lose her.”
“I know, Connor.” Oliver replied as he squeezed his son’s hand. He kissed his son on the
forehead, unable to say anything else to comfort his son.
“Sometimes, love means letting go... and sometimes, love means fighting back, even when
it looks like all hope is lost. It’s the beauty of being human, out of all the flaws this
race has, the ability to love, to hold on and to fight for that love is something truly
admirable.”
Oliver recalled John’s words a few months back, and he’d be lying if he said he hadn’t thought
about it, about Chloe. The three months he spent with Connor travelling, he weighed in all his
options. The visit was supposed to clear his mind, but all he could think of was Chloe. He was
never able to let Chloe go completely, and he wasn’t sure if he could do so now. He knew what
John was talking about that day;the man wasn’t exactly being subtle. As Oliver stared at the
glowing green stars that Connor and Jason had stuck to the ceiling, he knew that there’s only
been once choice from the start.
He should’ve used done everything he could back then to make things right with Chloe, it
could be too late now, but he would never know unless he took the chance.
Oliver closed his own eyes and hoped that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t be too late.

“Make sure you search everywhere! Make sure you get that fucker, got it?”
A figure looked outside the small glass paned window. He shivered in his torn clothes
as he looked at the men walking around.
“Please don’t let them find me... please don’t let them find me.” He chanted as he cowered
behind some boxes. When he ran away, he didn’t know where he was going, he just ran and ran
and ignored all the angry voices behind him. When he saw the opened door, he didn’t think
twice as he ran inside and slammed the door shut.
He was cold, afraid and he was hungry. But there was nothing he could do but curl into a
ball and hope that the bad men wouldn’t find him again.
