The power at the Gallery failed again. I can't understand it. I change fuses in the plugs or throw the interceptors and it eventually comes back on. I hope that I don't have to pay for rewiring - but if that does happen it may not drive me completely into the red.

The Crawford Street vase was a bargain.
My trip to Crawford Street was so successful that I can't quite believe it! I bought several items, some quite eye-catching, but the real find was a round, mottled looking vase. I had to look closely to see that it was patterned with three dragons and two red birds.

Stocking and re-stocking
I checked the area under the stand and there's not a sign of the missing carvings. It's strange. I'm sure they were here after that Ethan man left. I hope he didn't take them. He seemed quite ... I'll have to do more about cleaning thoroughly. There was dust underneath the base and a very dead carpet beetle. I suppose Buddy killed it - but surely ( Read more... ) -
Did they escape or something?
It's strange. I locked the door after that Englishman left. I wanted to check my buying balance, and when I came back up here some of those little wooden figures were gone. I'm sure there are five or six missing, everything from one part of the stand. I'm sure they were all here when I locked up and nobody could have got in ( Read more... ) -
Displaying the Ebony.
When I got back to the Gallery I made a special display for the ebony carvings. I covered a medium stand with velvet and scattered them over it as though they were animals on grass. They are very ethnic but not really particually attractive. There's one with two heads that is really quite unpleasant. I was tempted to take some home to see how they ( Read more... ) -

When I came home I thought that we'd had a burglary, for a moment. It can be more frightening here than it is in L.A. I'm never sure whether more bad things happen here, or whether I notice more because it's a small place. Then I saw Buffy's note on the counter. She hadn't even waited to speak to me. I worry. I need to restock before the summer.
I ran in to Mrs Hudson at the drug store. She told me that someone may have moved into the old Crawford place. She's seen lights late at night and a girl was dancing in the garden.
Perhaps I should stroll over there? It's old enough to have a few period pieces, and if the new tenants are young they may not appreciate them. It's not a very ( Read more... )
